Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, which significantly impacts the development of ideas. While you clearly state your position in the introduction, the essay is incomplete, ending abruptly in the conclusion. The ideas presented, such as the impact of technology on career choices, are relevant but remain under-developed due to the lack of a full conclusion and insufficient supporting detail. To improve, you must ensure you complete the essay structure and provide more depth to your arguments to fully address the prompt.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay uses some cohesive devices such as 'To commence with', 'Furthermore', and 'Moreover' to link ideas. However, the logical flow is disrupted by the incomplete nature of the text. Paragraphing is attempted, but the final paragraph is unfinished, which prevents a coherent conclusion. Referencing is sometimes unclear, such as in the sentence 'whether these fields have a high frequency of job choices', where the conjunction usage is awkward. Improving the transition between sentences and ensuring a complete structure will help improve your score in this area.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'innovations', 'expertise', and 'platforms'. However, there are instances of imprecise word choice and collocation errors, such as 'high frequency of job choices' instead of 'wide range of career options' and 'To epitome' instead of 'To epitomize' or 'For example'. Some phrasing is repetitive, and the vocabulary lacks the sophistication required for higher bands. Focusing on learning collocations and more precise academic terminology will strengthen your writing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include 'all the high-tech companies has' (subject-verb agreement error), 'it provide millions of ways' (subject-verb agreement), and 'there is number of choices' (missing article). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the placement of periods and commas. To reach a higher band, you need to focus on subject-verb agreement, correct article usage, and ensuring that complex sentences are constructed accurately.
