Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses the prompt by discussing the impact of technology on choices, but it fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, ending abruptly at 227 words. While you present a clear position, the development of ideas is somewhat superficial. For instance, the transition from discussing 'choices' to 'technology' is a bit abrupt, and the conclusion is incomplete. To improve, ensure you fully develop your arguments with more detailed examples and ensure the essay reaches the required length to allow for a comprehensive exploration of the topic.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and occasionally repetitive (e.g., 'On the other hand' is used twice in a similar context). The flow between sentences is sometimes hindered by grammatical errors, which makes the progression of ideas feel slightly disjointed. To improve, try using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that your paragraphing is balanced, with a clear introduction, body paragraphs that focus on one main idea each, and a finished conclusion.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but remains quite basic. You rely on simple phrasing such as 'so many' and 'good/bad' concepts. There are some inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'ill motive' instead of 'malicious intent' or 'privacy leaked' instead of 'privacy breaches'. To reach a higher band, you should aim to incorporate more precise, topic-specific vocabulary related to technology and consumerism, and work on using collocations more naturally to express your ideas with greater sophistication.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('people has', 'its creates'), incorrect verb forms ('wanted to bought'), and punctuation errors. The sentence structures are mostly simple or compound, with limited attempts at complex structures. To improve, focus on mastering basic subject-verb agreement and tense consistency. Additionally, practice constructing complex sentences using subordinating conjunctions (e.g., 'although', 'whereas', 'consequently') to demonstrate a wider range of grammatical control.
