Student answer (Band 5.5)
"In the current era, where human beings have a lot of options in many fields of life as well as for daily routine activities, it is difficult for individuals to make decisions regarding their choices. I strongly agree that nowadays the public has many options to select anything in life, but also career choices.
Increasing the number of choices not only opens the gate for a bulk of options but also puts the decision-making skill of every person in confusion. In the past, human beings had limited options about anything in life, but due to technological advancement and the invention of the internet, persons have a bulk of options about daily routine things as well as career selection. For example, Amazon setups give customers a lot of options about any product that the customer wants to purchase from this platform. By just entering the product name in the search bar, a window opens displaying products related to just one niche.
In addition, the presence of choices creates convenience for every person, but there is a need for structure by which persons can approach that specific item or exact product that they need. Furthermore, as in many learning management systems (LMS), there are a lot of options about online courses, and students confuse what to select, which is helpful according to their needs. Moreover, in the UK, the one LMS platform gives the filter option to select the right course according to their needs.
In conclusion, currently people have a lot of options, but to select the suitable product, there is need of a structure by which every person can make decisions effectively.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position that we have too many choices, which leads to confusion. The ideas are relevant, such as the mention of online shopping and learning management systems. However, the development is somewhat limited. While you provide examples, they are brief and could be expanded to better illustrate the 'extent' of the problem. For instance, you mention that choices create confusion, but you could elaborate more on the psychological impact or the specific consequences of this 'choice overload' in a professional or personal context to reach a higher band.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. You use some cohesive devices like 'In addition', 'Furthermore', and 'In conclusion' to link ideas. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes a bit mechanical. For example, the transition between the Amazon example and the LMS example feels abrupt. To improve, try to vary your linking words and ensure that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence that directly supports your main argument, creating a smoother progression of ideas throughout the text.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'technological advancement', 'niche', and 'decision-making skill'. However, there is some repetition of basic words such as 'options' and 'choices'. To achieve a higher score, try to incorporate more precise synonyms or collocations. For example, instead of repeating 'a lot of options', you could use 'an overwhelming array of alternatives' or 'a plethora of selections'. Some word choices are slightly unnatural, such as 'Amazon setups' or 'persons have a bulk of options'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical inaccuracies. For example, 'students confuse what to select' should be 'students are confused about what to select', and 'there is need of a structure' should be 'there is a need for a structure'. Additionally, some phrasing is slightly awkward, such as 'the one LMS platform'. Increasing the variety of complex structures while focusing on subject-verb agreement and preposition usage will help improve your accuracy and overall grammatical range.
