Student answer (Band 5.5)

In the current era, where human beings have a lot of options in many fields of life as well as for daily routine activities, it is difficult for individuals to make decisions regarding their choices. I strongly agree that nowadays the public has many options to select anything in life, but also career choices.

Increasing the number of choices not only opens the gate for a bulk of options but also puts the decision-making skill of every person in confusion. In the past, human beings had limited options about anything in life, but due to technological advancement and the invention of the internet, persons have a bulk of options about daily routine things as well as career selection. For example, Amazon setups give customers a lot of options about any product that the customer wants to purchase from this platform. By just entering the product name in the search bar, A search for a particular product displays numerous options within the same category.

In addition, the presence of choices creates convenience for every person, but there is a need for structure by which persons can approach that specific item or exact product that they need. Furthermore, as in many learning management systems (LMS), there are a lot of options about online courses, and students confuse what to select, which is helpful according to their needs. Moreover, in the UK, the one LMS platform gives the filter option to select the right course according to their needs.

In conclusion, currently people have a lot of options, but to select the suitable product, there is need of a structure by which every person can make decisions effectively.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position and providing relevant examples, such as Amazon and online learning platforms. However, the development of ideas is somewhat superficial. While you mention that too many choices cause confusion, the argument could be strengthened by exploring the psychological impact or the 'paradox of choice' in more depth. The conclusion is a bit repetitive and does not fully synthesize the points made. To reach a higher band, ensure that each paragraph moves beyond simple description to provide a more nuanced analysis of the extent to which you agree with the statement.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear central topic. You use some cohesive devices like 'In addition', 'Furthermore', and 'In conclusion' to link ideas. However, some transitions feel mechanical or slightly forced, such as the shift between the Amazon example and the LMS example. The referencing is generally clear, but the flow between sentences could be improved by using a wider variety of cohesive markers to create a more natural progression of thought. Overall, the structure is coherent, but the logical flow between ideas could be more sophisticated.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'technological advancement', 'decision-making', and 'learning management systems'. However, there is a reliance on repetitive phrasing, such as 'a lot of options' and 'bulk of options', which appears multiple times. To improve, try to use more varied synonyms or collocations to express the idea of 'many choices' (e.g., 'an abundance of alternatives', 'a plethora of selections', or 'an overwhelming array of options'). Some word choices, such as 'Amazon setups', are slightly unnatural.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'students confuse what to select' (should be 'are confused about what to select') and 'there is need of a structure' (should be 'there is a need for a structure'). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are minor issues with article usage and prepositional phrases. The sentence structures are mostly accurate, but the lack of more sophisticated complex structures limits the score in this criterion.
