Student answer (Band 6.0)

Many people think that these days we have many choices in different areas of life such as education jobs food and entertainment. I partly agree with this statement because having many options can create confusion, but it can also give people more freedom.

On the one hand having to many choices can make life more difficult people have many options they may spend a lot of time comparing them. For example when people buy a new mobile phone they can find hundreds of models with different prices and features. As a result they may become confuse and find it difficult to make a final decision. While having too many choices can sometime make people feel unhappy because they may think that another option have been better.

On the other hand, I believe that having more choices also several advantage. People had different needs and choice so more option allow them to choose something that suits them. For example students today can choose from many courses and universities according to their interest and career goals. Similar customers can select product based on their budget and requirement provide people with great freedom.

In conclusion, I party agree that people have too many choices nowadays. Although a large number of options can sometimes cause confusion and stress, I believe that having different choices is generally beneficial because it allows people to make decisions according to their individual needs.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt by presenting a balanced view on the topic of choices. However, the essay fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, reaching only 235 words. This under-length significantly impacts the development of ideas, as the arguments remain somewhat superficial. While a clear position is maintained throughout, the lack of depth in the supporting examples—such as the brief mention of mobile phones or university courses—prevents a more thorough exploration of the topic. To improve, you should expand on your examples and provide more detailed analysis to ensure the word count is met and the arguments are fully developed.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, each with a central theme. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand', 'On the other hand', and 'In conclusion' to signal shifts in your argument. However, the flow within paragraphs is sometimes hindered by a lack of varied linking words. For instance, the transition between sentences in the second paragraph is slightly repetitive. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider range of cohesive devices and ensure that the logical progression between sentences is smoother and less mechanical.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary used is generally appropriate for the task, but it is somewhat limited and repetitive. You rely on common words like 'many', 'choices', and 'options' throughout the text. There are also minor errors in word form, such as 'confuse' instead of 'confused' and 'advantage' instead of 'advantages'. To improve, try to incorporate more precise synonyms and academic collocations. For example, instead of repeating 'many choices', you could use 'an abundance of options' or 'a plethora of alternatives' to demonstrate a more sophisticated range of vocabulary.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are several grammatical errors that occur frequently, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('another option have been better', 'more option allow') and missing articles or prepositions. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly regarding the lack of commas after introductory phrases. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to affect the overall clarity of your writing. Focusing on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy and sentence structure will help you improve your score in this area.
