Student answer (Band 6.5)
It is believed that in recent times, people have more choices than ever before. I completely agree with this view because globalisation has expanded people's access to products, services and opportunities, while technological advancements have made a vast range of information available through the internet all over the world.
To begin with, it is an undeniable fact that globalisation and industrialisation have made countries around the world increasingly interconnected, allowing scholars, professionals and entrepreneurs to pursue better education, employment and standard of living abroad. People now have considerably greater opportunities to relocate abroad in search of better schooling, jobs and lifestyle. This has not only contributed to economical growth but has also encouraged the exchange and the blending all around the world. For instance, although international migration was considerably more difficult in the past, people nowadays have far more opportunities to relocate and pursue better living conditions.
Another major reason is that science and technology have made significant advancements particularly in communication technology which provided people with better communication and education choices. The internet has had a major impact on communication worldwide. It has become a powerful tool which has created countless opportunities for everyone around the world. It has transformed numerous fields, including education, trade, media and the arts, providing people with more opportunities to pursue their interests and ambitions. From education to acting careers, the internet has given people a much wider range of options to pursue their interests. For example, a student interested in rocket science can now access a vast range of research and educational resources online, much of which would have been difficult to obtain in the past. As a result, people have a much wider range of career options than previous generations did.
In conclusion, globalisation and technological advancements have significantly expanded the choices available to people. Greater international mobility and widespread access to information through the internet allow individuals to pursue a wider range of personal and professional goals.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response clearly addresses the prompt and maintains a consistent position throughout. You have identified two main pillars—globalisation and technology—to support your agreement with the statement. The ideas are well-developed, particularly the example regarding the student interested in rocket science, which effectively illustrates how the internet has expanded career choices. To reach a higher band, ensure that you explore the potential downsides or nuances of 'too many choices' (such as decision fatigue or anxiety), as this would provide a more balanced and sophisticated exploration of the topic, even when taking a strong stance.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organised with a clear introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Each paragraph has a central topic sentence, and the progression of ideas is easy to follow. You use cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'Another major reason', and 'As a result' effectively to link your points. However, some transitions are slightly repetitive, and the paragraphing could be enhanced by ensuring that the link between the two body paragraphs is more fluid. Overall, the structure is coherent and the use of referencing is generally accurate.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to discuss the topic with precision. Phrases like 'interconnected', 'technological advancements', and 'international mobility' are used appropriately. There is an attempt to use less common items, though some collocations could be more natural. For instance, 'blending all around the world' is slightly vague; 'cultural exchange' or 'global integration' would be more precise. You avoid repetitive language, and your word choices are generally accurate, which allows for a smooth reading experience. Expanding your repertoire of academic collocations will help you achieve a higher score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.0
The essay displays a good mix of simple and complex sentence structures. You use relative clauses and conditional structures effectively, such as 'much of which would have been difficult to obtain in the past'. The grammar is generally accurate, and errors are rare and do not impede communication. While your control is strong, you could incorporate a wider variety of complex grammatical forms, such as inversion or more sophisticated passive constructions, to demonstrate greater flexibility. Punctuation is used correctly throughout, and the sentence boundaries are clear.
