Student answer (Band 5.5)

As a result of globalization, the contemporary society has become technologically advanced and individuals have more opportunities to make their choices in their lives as they wish. I strongly agree with this view because people have too many options today, as this can lead to decision making difficulties, unnecessary spending confusing and less satisfaction. This essay will examine the cause and explain my opinion with my experience.

One of the major reason is having too many options makes it difficult to make decisions and causes mental exhaustion. from my own experience, when I do shopping online, I often find hundreds of similar products and spend a long time with comparing them. As a result, i become mentally tired and sometimes postpone the purchase altogether. In addition, a wide range of choices encourage individuals to purchase things they do not actually need. Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, as it is only 213 words long and ends abruptly mid-sentence. While you clearly state your position and provide relevant arguments regarding decision fatigue and consumerism, the development is incomplete. The final paragraph is cut off, meaning the conclusion is missing and the argument is not fully rounded off. To improve, you must ensure you complete the task by providing a full conclusion and expanding on your supporting examples to meet the length requirement. The ideas presented are relevant, but the lack of completion significantly impacts the overall task response.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay shows a basic level of organization with an introduction and body paragraphs. You use some cohesive devices such as 'As a result', 'In addition', and 'Furthermore' to link ideas. However, the progression is interrupted by the incomplete nature of the final paragraph. Paragraphing is present, but the abrupt ending makes the overall structure feel unfinished. To improve, ensure that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence and that you have enough time to write a concluding paragraph that summarizes your main points. The logical flow is generally easy to follow, but the mechanical failure at the end hinders the coherence of the piece.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'globalization', 'contemporary society', 'mentally exhausted', and 'tempt'. There are some errors in word choice and form, such as 'confusing' (should be 'confusion') and 'tempt they buy to' (should be 'tempt them to buy'). These errors do not generally impede communication, but they do limit the precision of your writing. To reach a higher band, focus on using more precise collocations and ensure that word forms are used correctly in context. Expanding your range of topic-specific vocabulary would also be beneficial.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as the conditional 'when I do shopping online' and the relative clause 'which sometimes tempt they buy'. However, there are several grammatical errors, including subject-verb agreement issues ('One of the major reason') and incorrect pronoun usage ('tempt they buy'). Punctuation is generally functional, though there are minor issues with capitalization and sentence structure. To improve, focus on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy, specifically checking for pluralization and correct verb forms. Increasing the variety of complex structures while maintaining accuracy will help you achieve a higher score.
