Student answer (Band 6.0)

It is often argued that in the recent years, individuals believe that we are experiencing many options. In my opinion, I strongly agree to the stated statement given that we are now in the 21st century.

On the on hand, it is an evident that technology has been upgraded and new trends are everywhere. For instance, with the use of advertisements, people are tend to shop through online such as Shopee, Amazon, Temu, Shein, Lazada, and Tiktok rather than visiting a shopping mall. E-commerce gives vouchers to the online shoppers, so they will choose purchasing due to the benefits and advantages they can get from it. Another example is purchasing food. It is now more convenient to order any kind of food through applications like Grab Food, and Food Panda. Even during inclement weather, people can satisfy their cravings by ordering the food they like in just one click.

Furthermore, through the advancement of technology, students have the freedom to choose the way on how they can conduct a research. For example, traditional facilities such as libraries are a too old-fashion way for the young generations. Instead, they will choose the most convenient way which is to to gather information with the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) such as ChatGPT, Gemini, and Microsoft Co-Pilot. In this way, it is easier and more convenient to the learners to accomplish any tasks.

In conclusion, with the inventions of great scientists and other field, I firmly believe that people have a lot of things to choose from given the different circumstances.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position and providing relevant examples. However, the development of ideas is somewhat superficial. While you mention online shopping and AI, the connection back to the core concept of 'too many choices' could be more analytical. For instance, you describe the convenience of these tools well, but you do not fully explore the potential negative implications of having 'too many' choices, such as decision fatigue or anxiety, which would have provided a more balanced and nuanced argument. To reach a higher band, ensure that your supporting points directly address the 'to what extent' aspect by evaluating the impact of these choices more deeply.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each with a central theme. You use some cohesive devices such as 'On the other hand', 'Furthermore', and 'In conclusion' to guide the reader. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical or misused, such as 'On the on hand' (a grammatical error) and the transition between the introduction and the first body paragraph. Additionally, the referencing within paragraphs could be smoother; for example, the jump from shopping to food delivery is a bit abrupt. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring they are used accurately will help the flow of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'inclement weather', 'advancement of technology', and 'convenient'. However, there are several instances of awkward phrasing or word choice errors, such as 'people are tend to shop' (should be 'people tend to shop') and 'a too old-fashion way' (should be 'an old-fashioned way'). The vocabulary is generally functional but lacks the precision and sophistication required for higher bands. To improve, focus on learning collocations and ensuring that words are used in their correct grammatical form.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you attempt complex sentences, there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. Examples include 'in the recent years' (should be 'in recent years'), 'agree to the stated statement' (should be 'agree with the statement'), and 'the way on how they can conduct' (should be 'the way they conduct'). Punctuation is generally acceptable, but subject-verb agreement and preposition usage need more attention. Increasing the number of error-free sentences will be key to improving your score in this criterion.
