Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses the prompt by agreeing that there are too many choices. However, the development of ideas is somewhat superficial. While you provide examples such as transportation, education, and healthcare, the analysis remains descriptive rather than argumentative. To reach a higher band, you need to explore the implications of these choices—for example, whether having 'too many' choices leads to decision fatigue or anxiety, rather than just listing areas where choices exist. The position is clear, but the supporting arguments lack depth and critical evaluation, which limits the overall impact of your response.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear introduction and conclusion. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or repetitive. For instance, you rely heavily on simple transitions like 'To commence with,' 'Moreover,' and 'Furthermore.' Additionally, some sentences lack smooth flow, such as the transition between the healthcare example and the grocery store example, which feels abrupt. While the progression of ideas is generally easy to follow, the lack of sophisticated linking words and occasional awkward phrasing in referencing (e.g., 'services provide by them') hinders the overall cohesion.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. You use basic terms repeatedly, such as 'options' and 'choices.' There are also several spelling errors, such as 'transportaion,' 'preffered,' 'etcectra,' 'depent,' 'Additonaly,' and 'thesedays.' These errors are noticeable and detract from the professional tone of the essay. To improve, you should aim to incorporate more sophisticated vocabulary related to the topic, such as 'consumerism,' 'abundance,' or 'decision-making,' and ensure that your spelling and word forms are accurate.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow. Common issues include missing articles (e.g., 'in modern era'), incorrect verb forms (e.g., 'individuals are preferred to visit'), and subject-verb agreement issues (e.g., 'services provide by them'). While the meaning is generally clear, the frequency of these errors suggests a lack of control over complex structures. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, particularly the correct use of articles, prepositions, and verb tenses, before attempting more complex grammatical forms.
