Student answer (Band 6.5)
Nowadays, people have access to a huge range of choices in almost every aspect of life, from eductaion and employment to entertainment and shopping. I partly agree that having too many choices can be problematic, athough i believe that the advantages of having more options generally outweigh the disadvantages.
On the one hand, an excessive number of choices can make decision-making difficult and stressful. When people are presented with hundres of product, career opportunities or entertainment options, they may spend a considerable amount of time comparing them. This can lead to confusion and dissatisfaction because people may constantly wonder whether they have made the best decision. For example, when purchasing a mobile phone online, consumers may find it difficult to choose between numerous brands and models with similar features. As a result, having more choice does not always make people happier.
On the other hand, I believe that having a wide range of options provides people with greater freedom and opportunities. In the past , individuals were often limited by their geographical location and the services available in their local area. Today, the internet allows people to study at universities abroad, work remotely and purchase products from alomst anywere in the world. For instance, a student in india can choose from courses offered by universities in Australia, the United Kingdom, Canada and many other countries . This can people help select options that better match their interests, abilities and financial circumstances.
In conclusion, although an excessive number of choices can sometimes cause stress and indecision, I belive that the freedom and opportunities created by having more choices are more beneficial overall.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses all parts of the prompt, clearly stating a position in the introduction and maintaining it throughout. The ideas are relevant and logically developed. The first body paragraph discusses the negative aspects of excessive choice, such as decision fatigue and dissatisfaction, while the second paragraph highlights the benefits of increased freedom and global connectivity. The arguments are well-supported with clear examples, such as the comparison of mobile phone shopping and the ability of students to study abroad. The conclusion effectively summarises the writer's stance. To reach a higher band, the development could be slightly more nuanced, perhaps by exploring the psychological impact of 'choice overload' in more depth.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organised with a clear progression of ideas. Each paragraph has a central topic, and the transition between the two sides of the argument is smooth, using cohesive devices like 'On the one hand' and 'On the other hand'. Referencing is generally clear, and the paragraphing is appropriate. However, some cohesive devices are used in a slightly mechanical way, and there are minor instances where the flow could be improved with more sophisticated linking words. Overall, the structure is clear and easy to follow, meeting the requirements for a band 7.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is sufficient to convey the intended meaning with some precision. The writer uses topic-specific terms such as 'decision-making', 'geographical location', and 'financial circumstances'. There are some spelling errors, such as 'eductaion', 'athough', 'hundres', and 'alomst', which are minor but noticeable. While the range of vocabulary is adequate for the task, it lacks the more sophisticated, idiomatic, or less common lexical items that would characterise a higher band score. The word choice is generally accurate, but there is room for more variety and stylistic flair.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. The writer successfully uses complex sentences to express ideas, such as 'Although an excessive number of choices can sometimes cause stress...'. There are some grammatical slips, such as 'This can people help' (word order) and 'almost anywere' (spelling). Punctuation is generally correct, though there are occasional spacing issues around commas and periods. The majority of the sentences are error-free, and the errors present do not impede communication. To improve, the writer should focus on eliminating minor slips and increasing the variety of complex structures.
