Student answer (Band 8.0)
Many individuals believe that the modern world offers an excessive number of choices, spanning everything including major life decisions such as career and education. I completely agree with this assertion, as the constant need to evaluate countless alternatives not only overwhelms individuals psychologically but also undermines the quality of the decisions they ultimately make.
To begin with, an excessive number of options can generate considerable psychological strain, as the human mind is not naturally equipped to process vast quantities of information simultaneously. When people are confronted with dozens of near-identical alternatives, they are forced to expend significant cognitive energy comparing features, prices and potential outcomes, which frequently results in stress and fatigue rather than satisfaction. For instance, a shopper browsing an online marketplace for a single product such as a laptop, may encounter hundreds of similar models with only marginal differences, leading them to second-guess their eventual selection long after the purchase has been made. This phenomenon, often referred to as "choice overload", demonstrates that abundance rather than empowering consumers can leave them feeling anxious and dissatisfied.
Furthermore, having too many choices paradoxically diminishes the quality of decisions themselves, since an overload of options often cause individuals to rely on superficial criteria rather than careful analysis. When faced with an unmanageable number of alternatives, people tend to make hasty judgements based on limited factors, such as price and packaging, instead of thoroughly evaluating what would genuinely serve their needs. A clear illustration of this can be seen in job-seeking platforms, where the sheer volume of available positions may prompt applicants to apply indiscriminately rather than researching and pursuing roles aligned with their actual skills and career goals. Consequently, the abundance of choice, rather than facilitating better outcomes, can actively hinder individuals from arriving at well-considered, informed decisions.
In conclusion, the proliferation of choices in modern life ultimately does more to burden individuals than to liberate them, as it exposes the limits of human cognitive capacity and encourages superficial rather than deliberate decision-making. Rather than viewing choice as an unqualified good, society would benefit from recognizing that, beyond a certain threshold, curated or simplified options may serve people’s genuine interests far better than boundless variety.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 8.5
The essay demonstrates a logical flow of ideas, with each paragraph building upon the previous one. The use of cohesive devices is sophisticated and natural, such as 'To begin with', 'Furthermore', and 'Consequently'. Lexical Resource — Band 8.0
You display a wide and flexible range of vocabulary, using precise and academic language throughout.
