Student answer (Band 5.5)

In present times people always have different ways and types to choice somethings like after completing high school student have to choose their courses in which they were interested, choose to by which transportation to use for travelling and which outfit to wear during an events. I strongly believed that choices help people in different ways.

If people have different choices to choose from it is helpful to the people to take good decisions accordingly. People can identify advantages or disadvantages while choosing. For example, if a person wanted to buy clothes then the person can choose which color they like or what fiber they wants and also to buy items in different price categories, if they have different options to choose from people can always be happy if they can select items by themselves.

There are many different options for students like weather they were interested to take the science, commerce or arts which was beneficial for their career. As in college students have different choice such as to learn the engineering, computer, AI, building websites etc. and can become professional in that courses.

If there was only single choice then it become difficult as people have to choose weather it was good or bad. And if such situation happens then people will not give there full interest into it and can lose productivity and determination. It was better that people have choice which they can choose from and can increase their efficiency and involvement on works which helps the societies.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt by expressing a clear opinion that choices are beneficial. However, the development of ideas is somewhat repetitive and lacks depth. While you provide examples like choosing clothes or academic subjects, the explanation of why having 'too many' choices might be problematic—as implied by the prompt—is largely ignored. You focus exclusively on the benefits of having options rather than engaging with the 'too many' aspect of the statement. To reach a higher band, you should acknowledge the potential downsides of excessive choice, such as decision fatigue or anxiety, to provide a more balanced and nuanced argument.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your argument. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate. For instance, phrases like 'as in college students' or 'if such situation happens' are used awkwardly, which disrupts the flow of ideas. The transition between sentences is sometimes abrupt, and the logical progression within paragraphs could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words (e.g., 'consequently', 'furthermore', 'on the other hand') to connect your points more effectively. Paragraphing is present but the internal structure of each paragraph needs more refinement.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but it is quite repetitive and lacks precision. You frequently use basic words like 'choose', 'different', and 'things'. There are also several word-choice errors, such as 'to choice somethings' (should be 'to choose something') and 'in that courses' (should be 'in those courses'). To improve, you need to incorporate a wider range of topic-specific vocabulary related to decision-making and psychology. Avoid repeating the same words in close proximity and focus on using more sophisticated collocations to express your ideas more naturally.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Common issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'student have to choose'), incorrect verb tenses (e.g., 'I strongly believed' instead of 'I strongly believe'), and misuse of articles or prepositions. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma usage. While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of errors in basic grammar prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. Focusing on proofreading for subject-verb agreement and tense consistency would be a significant step forward.
