Student answer (Band 6.5)
As far as this topic is concerned, I do agree with the statement that nowadays people have too many choices in their daily lives. Although having many options can be beneficial, I believe that it can also create confusion and stress.
Firstly, having a wide range of choices can provide people with greater freedom. For example, consumers can choose from many different products, brands and services according to their needs and budgets. Similarly, students have more choices of subjects, courses and universities than in the past. Therefore, people can make decisions that are more suitable for their personal preferences.
On the other hand, too many choices can make decision-making difficult. When people have a large number of options, they may become confused and spend a lot of time comparing them. Moreover, they may worry that they have made the wrong decision. For instance, when shopping online, people can find hundreds of similar products, which can make it difficult to select the best one.
In conclusion, I believe that having many choices provides people with freedom and flexibility, but excessive choices can also cause confusion and stress. Therefore, having a reasonable number of options is more beneficial than having unlimited choices.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The student addresses all parts of the task by taking a clear position that we have too many choices nowadays, acknowledging both benefits and drawbacks. Ideas are supported with relevant examples, such as shopping online and educational options. However, the response falls significantly short of the 250-word minimum, containing only 200 words. Because the length requirement is not met, the task cannot be fully developed to higher band standards, which directly impacts the Task Achievement score.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The essay displays a clear overall progression. It begins with a transparent introduction outlining the writer's stance, moves through body paragraphs discussing contrasting viewpoints using cohesive markers like 'Firstly' and 'On the other hand', and concludes with a summary statement. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct ideas. Cohesive devices are handled adequately without being overly mechanical, ensuring the logical flow of arguments remains clear and easy to follow throughout.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary suitable for the task, incorporating general academic and topic-specific terms such as 'beneficial', 'decision-making', 'flexibility', and 'preferences'. Word choice is generally appropriate, and spelling is accurate. However, the vocabulary tends to be somewhat predictable and standard rather than demonstrating a wider, more ambitious lexical range or flexible use of less common items, which prevents it from reaching a higher band score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.0
The response demonstrates a good mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as concessive clauses using 'Although' and conditional ideas introduced by 'When people have a large number of options'. Grammatical control is generally strong, with frequent error-free sentences and accurate punctuation. While the range of complex structures is somewhat limited due to the overall brevity of the essay, the errors are virtually absent, indicating a solid command of basic and intermediate grammar.
