Student answer (Band 5.0)

The world has changed in a modern way to all aspects of life. This is how we have entered in a modern society. As compared to decade ago, there is nothing like modern technology which make the people more smart, conscious, more informative, and courageous. Nowadays modern world has changed the society to become familiar with this modern world. Yes, I am strictly agree with that people who believe that nowadays we have too many choices to make.

To commence with that, a decade ago there are limited sources and information which can make the life easier than nowadays the modern world have. Nowadays people are more informative and they have many choices to make. For example, nowadays the students have too many fields for study according to their choice but a decade ago there is nothing like that, people were unaware about the education system, and they even not know about the scope of fields they choose for study. Nowadays students know what they have to study which make their life more easier and comfortable.

Additionally, nowadays that things are possible which were not even in the mind of people a decade ago. For example , in aspect of health and sciences, a decade ago people were not able to think about the word of plastic surgery. Nowadays the people have choice to make themselves attractive, to make themselves as they want to look.

I pen down by saying that, nowadays people have an opportunity to make themselves comfortable by making choice of their own.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The student addresses the prompt by clearly stating a position in the introduction: 'Yes, I am strictly agree with that people who believe that nowadays we have too many choices to make.' The response attempts to support this position with examples from education and healthcare, such as mentioning that students have 'too many fields for study' and citing 'plastic surgery' as a modern medical choice. However, the ideas remain largely underdeveloped, repetitive, and lack depth. The reasoning is frequently circular, as seen when the writer repeatedly states that people are 'more informative' and have 'many choices' without deeply exploring the implications of having too many options. Furthermore, the response relies on broad generalisations rather than well-extended arguments. Consequently, the task is only partially addressed, which aligns with the Band 5 descriptor.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay displays a basic structure with an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a brief concluding sentence starting with 'I pen down by saying that'. However, there is no clear overall progression of ideas, and the logical flow is disrupted by repetitive phrasing. Cohesive devices are used awkwardly or inaccurately; for instance, transitions like 'To commence with that' and 'Additionally, nowadays that things are possible' sound unnatural and mechanical. Paragraphing is attempted, but the internal cohesion within paragraphs suffers from poor referencing and repetitive sentence structures, such as starting multiple sentences with 'Nowadays'. These issues reflect a level of organisation that fits the Band 5 descriptor.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is very basic and repetitive throughout the essay. The student repeatedly relies on words and phrases such as 'modern', 'nowadays', 'choices', and 'a decade ago'. There are noticeable lexical errors and awkward word formations, such as 'strictly agree' instead of 'strongly agree', 'more smart' instead of 'smarter', and 'make the life easier' where articles or adjectives are misused. While the writer attempts to introduce less common topics like 'plastic surgery' and 'education system', the limited and repetitive range of vocabulary, combined with frequent word-choice errors that cause occasional strain for the reader, places this performance squarely at Band 5.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response exhibits a very limited range of grammatical structures. The majority of sentences are simple or poorly constructed compound sentences, and attempts at complex forms are frequently faulty. Examples of grammatical errors include subject-verb agreement issues ('a decade ago there are limited sources'), tense inconsistencies ('people were unaware... and they even not know'), and awkward prepositional usage ('in aspect of health and sciences'). Frequent errors in punctuation and basic grammar cause difficulty for the reader and impede comprehension at times. Because of the heavy frequency of errors and the lack of a varied, accurate grammatical range, the response earns a Band 4.5, rounded to 5.0 based on positive marking for understandable communicative intent.
