Student answer (Band 6.0)

I completely agree that modern life offers an overwhelcoming number of choices, and this can be counterproductiverather than beneficial.

On the one hand , having many choices seems like freedom. In the past , people in my hometown lahore had only one or tow venues for entertainment , like local theatre or cinema. Now we have Netflix , youtube , affordable cinemas, museums, spectacular live shows and countless online options.Similary , shopping is no longer limited to local bazar; we can choose from thousands of products online.

However this abundance creates two major problems. First is decision paralysis. when faced with 100 types of toothpaste or 500 films to watch, people spend more time choosing than enjoying. For example ,many friends of my spend 40 minutes scrooling Netflix and thenwatch nothing. Second , too many choices lead to constant dissatifaction. We always think a better option might exist, so we are never happy with the what we have chosen. This is known as FOMO(fear of missing out).

This is particularly true for young people choosing careers . My generation has too many accommodation options, courses , and career path. while my parents had 3-4 clear options, we have 300, which makes us more anxious and confused.we don't known which course to chose or wether its good for us or not , this is the most negative effect of having too many options.

In conclusion, although choice is gernerally postive, i believe we have now passed the limit having too many choices wastes time, increases axniety, and reduces satisfaction.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the task and presents a clear position throughout that modern life offers too many choices which can be counterproductive. The ideas are well-extended and supported with relevant examples, such as comparing entertainment options in Lahore in the past with streaming platforms today, and discussing decision paralysis regarding Netflix or purchasing toothpaste. The concepts are sufficiently developed to meet the requirements of a Band 6.5 or 7.0. However, the development of ideas in the conclusion and some body paragraphs remains slightly general, showing a tendency to over-generalize without deeper analysis. Overall, the task is answered satisfactorily, aligning well with the Band 6.0 and 7.0 descriptors.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with a logical progression of ideas. Paragraphing is used appropriately, with clear divisions between the introduction, body paragraphs addressing different aspects of the prompt, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices are employed, such as 'On the one hand', 'However', and 'For example', though some referencing is occasionally faulty or mechanical, such as 'For example ,many friends of my spend 40 minutes scrooling Netflix and thenwatch nothing'. Paragraph transitions generally work well, but mechanical punctuation errors around commas and spaces detract slightly from smooth reading. These features place the response firmly in the Band 6.0 category.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting less common items such as 'counterproductive', 'decision paralysis', 'dissatifaction', and 'FOMO'. However, there are several spelling and word-choice errors, including 'overhelcoming', 'counterproductiverather', 'lahore', 'tow', 'youtube', 'Similary', 'bazar', 'scrooling', 'thenwatch', 'dissatifaction', 'gernerally', 'postive', 'i', and 'axniety'. While these errors do not impede overall communication, their frequency prevents the score from reaching Band 7.0. The lexical control is characteristic of Band 6.0, where an adequate vocabulary is displayed alongside noticeable spelling inaccuracies.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The student employs a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including conditional-style thoughts and relative clauses. There are, however, frequent punctuation and grammatical errors, such as missing capitalizations on proper nouns and the pronoun 'i', missing articles ('choose from thousands of products', 'having too many choices wastes time'), and spacing issues around punctuation marks (e.g., 'On the one hand ,'). Run-on sentences also appear, such as 'we don't known which course to chose or wether its good for us or not , this is the most negative effect'. These errors occasionally cause minor readability issues, placing the grammatical performance at a solid Band 6.0 level.
