Student answer (Band 6.0)

In the contemporary epoch, it is true that living standard is increasing more and more. In that context, the question of whether there are many options for individuals or not remains a source of controversy among the public. While there are still arguments around this topic, I personally agree with the idea that people have many choices due to various benefits it offers.

To begin with, only by having many options can people opt to where they reside more easily as transportation development is impressive. It gives people an opportunity to travel whenever they want in a short time. Therefore, some people can decide to live in out-skirt to harmonize the nature and they can travel to work by electric train which its speed is so high. Moreover, they also can visit their hometown conveniently by plane or various types of transportation. Furthermore, there are many options when people select to entertainment ways because they can consider indoor or outdoor forms. Accordingly, in each option they can continue to decide a range of entertainment such as watching movies, playing board games, visiting park, …, thus helping them boost their moods.

Additionally, many choices can help individuals gain more knowledge easily with being suitable ways for them. Nowadays, people can take a course online or offline, even hybrid method, it allows people to arrange their schedule properly and increase effective learning journeys. A prime example would be my younger sister, who made a decision to pursue a hybrid yoga course 6 months ago. In that time, she followed the online lecture via zoom on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays and she went to the training room in the rest to do yoga with her trainer. Hence, she improved her yoga skills so much in a short time.

In conclusion, it seems to me that many choices are a positive tendency in the society, with the most noticeable benefits being the chances it offers to decide where people reside more conveniently and expand ranges of entertainment as well as improve process learning.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the task and presents a clear, consistent position throughout, agreeing that having many choices is beneficial. Ideas are extended and supported, such as discussing how choices in residential location and entertainment improve people's moods, and how learning options benefit individuals, exemplified by the writer's sister's yoga course. While the prompt asks whether we have 'too many choices' (implying a potential negative aspect), the student interprets 'many choices' as a purely positive phenomenon. This is a common and acceptable approach in IELTS, though acknowledging the alternative viewpoint slightly more could have enhanced task response. Overall, the ideas are relevant, and the development is adequate for a Band 6.5 or 7, warranting a solid Band 6.0 for addressing all parts while showing some tendency to generalise.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with clear paragraphing, including an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices are used to signal progression, such as 'To begin with', 'Moreover', 'Furthermore', and 'Additionally'. However, referencing and cohesion are sometimes faulty or mechanical. For example, the phrase 'due to various benefits it offers' is slightly vague in its antecedent, and sentences like 'out-skirt to harmonize the nature' lack smooth logical flow. Paragraphing is used sufficiently and appropriately, but internal cohesion within sentences occasionally falters, placing this response comfortably at Band 6.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting less common items such as 'contemporary epoch', 'harmonize the nature', and 'hybrid method'. However, there are notable word choice, collocation, and phrasing errors that restrict the score, such as 'living standard is increasing' instead of 'living standards are rising', 'out-skirt' instead of 'the outskirts', and 'entertainment ways' instead of 'forms of entertainment'. Additionally, 'process learning' should be 'the learning process'. While these errors do not impede overall communication, they prevent the vocabulary from reaching Band 7 standards, making Band 6 an accurate reflection of the student's lexical control.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The writer employs a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating attempts at relative clauses and conditional structures (e.g., 'only by having many options can people...'). However, there are frequent grammatical errors and awkward syntactic structures throughout the text. Examples include 'train which its speed is so high' (faulty relative clause), 'with being suitable ways for them', and comma splices or run-on structures such as 'Nowadays, people can take a course online or offline, even hybrid method, it allows people...'. Although these errors rarely impede communication entirely, their frequency means that error-free sentences are not in the majority, aligning the grammar with the Band 6 descriptor.
