Student answer (Band 5.5)

In the past, there was shortage of the opportunities before the 20th century because at that time the countries were not well developed. At that time the technology was not so advance, the technological advanvcements were not introduced at that time. But nowadays, countries made much progress in technology. In my perception, I totally agree with the statement that " Nowadays we have too many choices". I will support my answer with the following reasons.

In the modern age we have too many opportunities especially in IT field the field of technology. Nowadays, every occupation has too many opportunities to hire the people. For example, In IT field we can work as a software engineer, web developer, cloud computing and so many other opportunities are there in IT field. In medical field, we can work as a doctor, nurse and there are different types of doctor like cardiologist etc.

On the other there are so many occupations in this world that everyone can feed himslef or his family as compare to past. In past, these opportunities didn't even exist. Everyone worked as a labour, owner of a company or servant of a king. In modern age theere are so many opportunities in every occupation.

Conclusively, I firmly agree with the statement because nowadys we have so many opportunities to earn, to wear, to eat, to feed anyone or to feed our family like our children and in the family. Modern age gives more opportunities like even a poorest person has his owm home.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt regarding whether we have too many choices nowadays by focusing on the increase in opportunities and career paths compared to the past. The writer takes a clear position and supports it with examples, such as professions in the IT and medical fields. However, some ideas are repetitive and under-developed, relying on simple assertions rather than deep exploration. The progression from historical context to modern choices is somewhat simplistic. Therefore, the task achievement aligns well with Band 5.5 to 6.0, best represented by a 6.0 as all parts of the prompt are addressed with relevant examples, despite the lack of thorough extension.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. However, cohesion is frequently faulty or mechanical, as seen in the repetitive use of transitional phrases like 'At that time,' 'Nowadays,' and 'In the modern age.' Paragraphing is used, but the internal logical progression within paragraphs can be disjointed, such as abruptly shifting between IT examples and general economic comparisons. Referencing is sometimes unclear, particularly with pronoun usage ('himslef or his family'). These features place the response firmly at Band 5.5.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items related to occupations (e.g., 'software engineer,' 'web developer,' 'cardiologist'). However, there are noticeable lexical inaccuracies and awkward word choices, such as 'shortage of the opportunities,' 'not so advance,' 'advanvcements,' and spelling errors like 'himslef' and 'owm.' While these errors do not severely impede communication, they restrict the lexical score to a Band 5.5.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, but control is inconsistent. There are frequent grammatical errors involving articles, prepositions, and tense usage, such as 'there was shortage of the opportunities,' 'countries made much progress' (missing auxiliary), and 'theere are so many opportunities.' Complex structures are often clumsy or inaccurate. Punctuation is generally acceptable, but the frequency of structural errors places the response at Band 5.0.
