Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The student addresses the prompt by agreeing that we have too many choices and provides relevant everyday examples, such as transport, mobile phones, and housing. However, the response is significantly underdeveloped due to the lack of a proper conclusion and a failure to meet the minimum word count of 250 words, as the student's response contains only 219 words. Consequently, the ideas are not fully extended, and the overall development falls short of Band 6. The position is stated at the beginning, but the lack of depth and the negative impact of being under-length constrain the score to a Band 5.0.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The text suffers from a lack of proper paragraphing, as the entire body is condensed into a single block following the introduction, and there is no concluding paragraph. Cohesive devices are minimal and sometimes repetitive, leading to a mechanical flow. While there is a basic logical progression from transport to mobile phones and housing, the transitions between ideas are abrupt. For instance, the shift from mobile phones to housing uses a very basic conversational opener ('If we talk about our residence'). Referencing and paragraphing issues prevent the text from achieving a Band 6, placing it firmly at Band 5.0.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is generally basic and repetitive, such as 'different options,' 'examples,' and 'buy.' There are attempts to use less common items like 'affordibility,' 'hatchback,' and 'processors,' but these are often marred by spelling mistakes ('statment,' 'hundrad,' 'proceeser,' 'banglows,' 'appartments'). Word choices are sometimes awkward, such as 'have glimpse on Mobile phones.' While the vocabulary is minimally adequate to convey basic meanings, the frequency of spelling errors and the limited lexical range restrict the score to a Band 5.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The text demonstrates a very limited range of sentence structures, relying heavily on simple sentences and run-on structures joined incorrectly by commas, such as 'Our automobile industry has been so much developed we can take the examples of cars we have a variety of cars around us...' Punctuation is frequently omitted or misused, particularly around sentence boundaries and capitalization (e.g., 'I phones'). Frequent grammatical errors, missing articles, and awkward phrasing create noticeable difficulty for the reader. Therefore, the grammatical control corresponds to a Band 4.5, rounded to 5.0 based on the attempted complexity.
