Student answer (Band 6.0)
It is believed by most of the population that nowadays people have way more options than earlier times. I agree that in terms of many things, people have freedom to choose and do whatever they want.
Earlier, people had limited options in career to choose from. The major ones included doctorate, teaching and engineering. They were highly recognised by the whole world as they were known to be high profile and respectable jobs. In schools, there were limited subjects and streams with no other choice of subjects which led to pressure to those who were not good and interested in the particular subject or profession. It is not only about studies but also about the overall freadom a person goes through in life. Many went through the taunts of their families if they wanted to choose a different path for themselves or wanted to dress like some way.
Today, think of any random job or career and that would be available. Schools have introduced a wide range of new subjects and a student can opt for any option they want, high rated universities provide courses like foreign languages, digital marketing, dance, music and art courses which were not easily available before. There are more than hundreds of careers and options available to people. Everyone can dress up however they want to. This result in better growth of citizens as well as economy when people choose path of their choice where they are really satisfied. For many people it is now confusing to choose the courses and professions as there are way more choices than talents an individual have.
To conclude, I agree that we have too many choices and that it has made people feel more confident and independent in exactly what they want and do and every job is valued.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the prompt, taking a clear position that we indeed have too many choices nowadays. The student contrasts past limitations in career options and subjects with today's abundance of choices, concluding with the personal and economic benefits as well as the potential confusion this causes. Ideas are generally extended and supported, such as when detailing past professions like 'doctorate, teaching and engineering' versus modern alternatives like 'foreign languages, digital marketing, dance, music'. However, some arguments lack deep development, tending to over-generalise slightly regarding societal pressure or career confusion. Nevertheless, the main task requirements are met fully and a consistent stance is maintained throughout.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay has a clear logical progression, moving logically from an introduction, through a body paragraph on past conditions, a body paragraph on present conditions, to a concise conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate ideas. Cohesive devices are employed, such as 'Earlier', 'Today', and 'To conclude', which helps guide the reader through the text. However, referencing and transitions are sometimes a bit mechanical, for instance with 'It is not only about studies but also about...' and 'This result in better growth', where linking could be smoother and more sophisticated. Overall, the essay maintains a coherent arrangement with clear overall progression.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task. Words and phrases such as 'recognised', 'respectable jobs', 'freedom', and 'digital marketing' show a functional command of English. There are some attempts at less common vocabulary, but also noticeable word choice and collocation errors, such as 'freadom' (spelling error for freedom), 'dress like some way' (unnatural phrasing), and 'This result in' (agreement error). Vocabulary is sometimes repetitive, such as the frequent use of 'options' and 'choices'. Despite these occasional inaccuracies and spelling slips, communication is never impeded, placing the response comfortably in the band 6 range.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay exhibits a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating attempts at varied structures such as 'It is believed by most of the population that...' and 'Schools have introduced a wide range of new subjects and a student can opt for...'. There are several grammatical errors present throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues like 'This result in better growth' instead of 'results', missing articles ('choose path of their choice'), and prepositional slips ('pressure to those' instead of 'pressure on those'). However, these errors rarely impede communication and the basic meaning remains clear. Punctuation is generally acceptable, supporting a solid band 6 performance.
