Student answer (Band 6.0)
Whether the variety of choices has increased in the contemporary world is a subject of many debates. I agree with the statement and in this essay, I will explain the reasons for my agreement.
The main obvious criterion which leads to the diversity of options is the internet. Since the early 21st century, the development of the internet and various websites give people numerous opportunities to opt for whatever they want based on their taste. Although it is undoubtedly beneficial for each society, there are some negative impacts simultaneously, such as confusion as well as the energy-consuming act of the choosing process. For example, there are a lot of websites available which give access to subscribers to watch every movie that they looking for without any cost. Therefore, this causes people to have several options to choose the best quality; however, it takes a lot of energy and squandering time because the differences are too partial.
Alongside the internet, overpopulation results in a variety of choices in shopping. In other words, the population of the world has become proliferated; thus, everyone needs to find a career to live their lives. In this case, all fields of jobs from theoretical to practical are saturated. Hence, the competition between rivals in each field of jobs gives customers various opportunities to pick the best in quality and price. For instance, if someone wants to purchase a flight ticket, there are a lot of companies which serve them with different alternatives.
In conclusion, I firmly agree choices have become varied in recent years. nevertheless, a lot of positive opportunities are given to individuals, some negative impacts are shadowed on people’s lives.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses the task directly and presents a clear position throughout, agreeing that we have too many choices nowadays. The ideas are relevant and supported with explanations, such as mentioning the role of the internet and overpopulation in creating a wider array of options. However, some arguments lack full extension and suffer from slight generalisations or minor logical leaps, such as linking global overpopulation directly to saturated job markets and consumer choices. The examples provided, like movie streaming websites and flight ticket companies, are generally clear and illustrate the points adequately. Overall, the content aligns well with the Band 6.5 to 7.0 profile, successfully covering all parts of the prompt with relevant, albeit somewhat under-developed, supporting details.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used sufficiently to separate different main ideas, such as internet-based choices versus shopping and career choices. Cohesive devices are employed to link sentences and paragraphs, using transition markers like 'Although', 'For example', 'Therefore', and 'In other words'. However, some referencing and cohesive links are slightly mechanical or awkward, such as 'some negative impacts are shadowed on people’s lives'. Progression is generally logical, but the connection between sentences occasionally feels abrupt, keeping the organizational flow at a Band 6.5 level.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The writer demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task and attempts less common lexical items, such as 'contemporary world', 'diversity of options', 'subscribers', and 'saturated'. There are some noticeable inaccuracies in word choice, collocation, and phrasing throughout the text, including phrases like 'squandering time because the differences are too partial' and 'negative impacts are shadowed on people’s lives'. Despite these lexical slips, meaning is generally conveyed clearly without significant impediment to the reader. The vocabulary falls comfortably into the Band 6 category, showing sufficient flexibility for the task but lacking the precision required for a higher band.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The student uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating attempts at subordination and relative clauses, such as in the sentences beginning with 'Since the early 21st century' and 'if someone wants to purchase'. There are several grammatical errors and awkward structures present, including 'the development of the internet... give people', 'every movie that they looking for', and 'choices have become varied in recent years. nevertheless, a lot of positive opportunities'. Punctuation and capitalization errors also occur, such as the lowercase 'nevertheless' following a full stop. While these errors do not severely impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent the grammar score from reaching Band 7.
