Student answer (Band 4.5)
Too many choices, i have heard this one before, i must say that i agree with this. Having too many choices can be a good thing but in some cases it can also mess up your decision to choose.
I remember the time when a person used facebook and after scrolling for a few minutes, facebook showed a notification stating that there is nothing to see anymore.
This restricted the amount of content we consumed as a human and restricted us from consuming too much. Nowadays we have unlimited access to entertainment, too many form of medias to choose from, to many videos to watch.
Same is with clothing, we wore simple clothes, some were for formal events and some were for day to day wearing. Now, we are consuming more than we need.
but in another aspect this is a good thing too, having too many choices leads to competition and competition give birth to new inventions.
advertisement has a big role to play in this case, advertisement has us chasing cars, worl

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The student addresses the prompt by expressing a clear position of agreement regarding having too many choices today. However, the response falls severely short of the 250-word minimum, containing only 174 words. Due to this significant under-length, the ideas are underdeveloped and truncated, finishing abruptly mid-sentence ('advertisement has us chasing cars, worl'). The example regarding Facebook and clothing are introduced but not fully explored or connected deeply to the main argument. Consequently, the task cannot be fully addressed within the constraints of such a brief text, which heavily limits the band score under Task Achievement.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The text demonstrates some basic logical sequencing, moving from an introductory statement to examples in social media and clothing, and then acknowledging a counter-perspective about competition. However, the paragraphing is poor and unconventional, consisting of very short, fragmented paragraphs and a single run-on block of ideas. Cohesive devices are largely absent or repetitive, with excessive use of commas where full stops or transition markers should be used. The abrupt ending further disrupts the logical progression and flow of the text, resulting in a disjointed structure that fails to meet higher band descriptors.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The student uses an adequate basic vocabulary to express everyday ideas, such as 'entertainment', 'competition', 'inventions', and 'advertising'. However, there are notable word choice and collocation errors, such as 'too many form of medias' instead of 'too many forms of media' and 'day to day wearing' instead of 'day-to-day wear'. The range of vocabulary is limited, and the writer struggles to incorporate less common lexical items naturally. Furthermore, spelling and phrasing errors like 'mess up your decision to choose' reflect a heavy reliance on informal, spoken language rather than academic register.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.5
The response displays a very limited range of sentence structures, relying primarily on simple and compound sentences strung together with commas, such as 'Having too many choices can be a good thing but in some cases it can also mess up your decision to choose.' There are noticeable grammatical errors, including subject-verb agreement issues ('competition give birth') and pluralisation errors ('too many form'). Punctuation is weak, leading to comma splices throughout the essay. Because the text ends prematurely mid-sentence, complex structures are sparse and frequently faulty, constraining the grammar score.
