Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses the prompt regarding whether we have too many choices nowadays. The student attempts to take a position, stating that 'people have many different choices in lives', but the development of ideas remains quite repetitive and superficial. Points regarding business ideas and fashion trends are introduced as examples ('For instance :If the business man in market are in race...', 'Like matching the new fashion trends...'), but they are not fully elaborated or clearly linked to the core philosophical debate of whether an abundance of choices is overwhelmingly positive or negative. The conclusion reiterates the main premise without synthesizing new insights. Consequently, the task is addressed only partially, aligning with the Band 5 descriptor where ideas are somewhat limited and under-developed.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is divided into paragraphs, though the structural organization is weak and erratic, featuring unusual sentence-like paragraph breaks such as 'Changing world and endless options .In the fast changing world...'. Logical progression is frequently disrupted by abrupt shifts in focus and a lack of smooth transitional markers. While basic cohesive devices are attempted, they are often used inaccurately or mechanically, such as repetitive use of 'For instance' and 'Like'. Referencing is sometimes unclear, and the overall arrangement lacks a clear, cohesive flow from introduction to conclusion, placing the response firmly at Band 5.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is relatively basic and repetitive, with frequent reuse of words like 'choices', 'options', and 'good'. There are noticeable collocation and word-choice errors, such as 'clothing wears' instead of 'clothing' or 'attire', and 'business man in market are in race'. Attempts at less common vocabulary, such as 'uptodate' (written incorrectly) and 'regretless life', are awkward and indicate limited control over stylistic nuances. While meaning is generally recoverable, the frequent errors and restricted lexical range mean the response does not fully achieve a Band 6, fitting better into the Band 5 descriptor where noticeable errors cause some difficulty.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The writing demonstrates a very limited range of sentence structures, relying heavily on simple sentences and repetitive clause patterns. Attempts at complex structures are often faulty, plagued by punctuation errors (such as spaces before commas, e.g., 'point of view , people'), missing articles, and subject-verb agreement issues (e.g., 'If the business man... he or she will always get'). Frequent grammatical errors are present throughout the text, which occasionally strain the reader's comprehension. This matches the Band 5 descriptor, where frequent errors in grammar and punctuation persist and complex sentences are unreliable.
