Student answer (Band 6.0)
There is an argument having multiple options opens many doors for individuals nowadays. I largely agree with this view due to advancements in technology and digital media; however, these trends can also be limited by a person's personal circumstances.
The foremost reason for the increasing number of choices is technological advancement, which enables many choices for an individual in various aspects of their lives. Online shopping gives people access to thousands of brands and products, and also easily compare the prices of different products. Additionally, food-delivery and travel apps provide suggestions for good hotels, restaurants, and destinations. These are the primary reasons why people think that they have more choices and opportunities than they did in the past. Another reason is through the internet, particularly streaming platforms, where many people get thousands of movies, shows, and series in one place, making it easier for them to access films and shows. As a result, individuals' lives become more convenient and enjoyable. Besides entertainment, many students take online courses, through which they can receive quality education and gain practical knowledge. This can help them improve their career prospects and develop useful skills.
However, some argue that these trends also have limitations because individuals has different circumstances. These choices are mainly restricted their income, location, education and family responsibilities. For instance, a person from a low-income background cannot afford to attend a foreign university, take an expensive tour package, or buy a luxury car even if they want them. As a result, many people still have fewer choices in their lives.
Although many people believe that they have more options because of the technological advancements and the internet, others are still unable to benefit from these opportunities because of their personal circumstances.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses the prompt effectively, presenting a clear position that largely agrees with the statement while introducing a nuanced counter-argument concerning personal limitations. The writer supports their main points with relevant examples, such as online shopping platforms, travel apps, streaming services, and online courses. In the body paragraphs, the ideas are extended and supported well, detailing how technology broadens choices and how financial or familial barriers can restrict them. This aligns well with the Band 7 descriptor, as all parts of the task are addressed with a clear overall position and well-developed supporting ideas, avoiding over-generalisation through the careful introduction of contrasting personal circumstances.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay displays a clear logical organisation and progression throughout. The introduction establishes the topic and the writer's stance, followed by a body paragraph focusing on the positive aspects of technology, a contrasting paragraph discussing limitations, and a concise concluding summary. Cohesive devices are used reasonably well, such as 'Additionally', 'Another reason', and 'However', to guide the reader through the argument. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct themes. While some transitions feel slightly standard, the overall structure is coherent and logical, justifying a solid Band 7 score.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary used is generally adequate for the task, with some attempts at less common lexical items such as 'technological advancement', 'career prospects', and 'circumstances'. However, there are some noticeable inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'having multiple options opens many doors' (which is acceptable idiomatically, but slightly clunky in context) and the grammatical error in 'individuals has different circumstances'. Despite these minor flaws, the lexical range is sufficient to convey precise meanings regarding digital media and socio-economic limits, placing the response firmly at Band 6.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The writer demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing relative clauses ('which enables many choices', 'through which they can receive quality education') and conditional structures effectively. However, there are several grammatical errors that catch the reader's attention, most notably subject-verb agreement ('individuals has different circumstances') and preposition/article issues (e.g., 'restricted their income' missing a preposition like 'to'). Despite these recurring errors, communication is rarely impeded, and the sentence structures show a reasonable degree of variety, making Band 6.0 the most accurate descriptor.
