Student answer (Band 5.5)

In this modern world, nowadays people think that they have now more choices Most people advocate that humans will have to choose from many options. I agree that the contemporary age offers us many things and forces people to consume more quickly than ever before. I will shine a light on this subject with examples.

Firstly, in many aspects of life, governments must take responsibility for developing civilian lifestyles. Undoubtedly, education has always been the most vital paradigm and, starting with the 21st century, is becoming the only way to establish a prosperous civilization. Therefore, there are various approaches to making better, healthy life conditions; for example, increasing the number of educated women and enhancing university qualifications are key factors. When governments make decisions, they must take into consideration human choices regarding religion.

Secondly, we can come across alluring opportunities to enrich our lifestyles. Individuals wanting a decent life must spend their resources on shaping their futures. Starting from their teenage years, people must imagine a career plan according to their abilities. There has always been an incredible offer in human life. So, we must be aware of what we give up, because choosing anything means giving up something. Demand, desire, target, and impulse are multiples that we must follow. However, companies such as Nike and Ferrari offer a very narrow range of products and services to customers, and also limited-edition products for a select few.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses the prompt regarding whether we have too many choices nowadays, but the development of ideas is frequently tangential and lacks clear focus. The introduction sets up an agreement with the statement, yet the subsequent body paragraphs drift into broad discussions about government responsibilities in education and the importance of career planning rather than directly exploring the theme of excessive choices in modern life. While the writer touches on consumer products and lifestyle decisions in the second body paragraph, the arguments are underdeveloped and somewhat confusing, particularly when mentioning that companies like Nike and Ferrari offer a narrow range. The position is stated but not consistently maintained throughout the text.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay demonstrates some organizational structure with basic paragraphing and transitional markers such as 'Firstly,' 'Secondly,' and 'In conclusion.' However, the logical progression between sentences and paragraphs is frequently disrupted by abrupt shifts in topic. For instance, moving from modern consumerism directly into government responsibility for education lacks a clear logical bridge. Referencing and cohesive devices are sometimes mechanical or unclear, such as the use of 'multiples that we must follow' in the second body paragraph, which obscures the logical connection of the argument.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, but lacks the precision and flexibility required for higher bands. The student attempts some less common vocabulary items, such as 'contemporary age,' 'prosperous civilization,' and 'groundbreaking technology,' but also makes noticeable word choice and collocation errors, such as 'vital paradigm' instead of 'vital sector' or 'vital factor,' and 'impulse are multiples.' Spelling is generally accurate, but the overall range and control remain limited, resulting in occasional strain for the reader when trying to follow abstract concepts.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, including conditional and participial phrases like 'When governments make decisions, they must take into consideration...' and 'Individuals wanting a decent life must spend...'. However, grammatical accuracy is inconsistent. There are several awkward phrasings and structural errors, such as 'humans will have to choose' instead of 'humans have to choose,' and 'There has always been an incredible offer in human life.' Punctuation is mostly functional, but frequent minor errors in grammar and syntax occasionally impede smooth communication.
