Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The student addresses the prompt by agreeing that people have too many choices nowadays, focusing primarily on education and travelling. A position is presented, and relevant examples from personal experience are provided. However, the development of ideas remains somewhat limited and repetitive. For instance, the discussion on education relies heavily on basic assertions regarding apps like YouTube without deeply exploring the psychological or social implications of having excessive choices. Furthermore, the phrasing in the introduction and conclusion is overly formulaic. While all parts of the task are addressed, the depth of extension places this response comfortably at Band 5.0.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is divided into paragraphs, including an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. However, the overall progression lacks a smooth logical flow. Cohesive devices are frequently inaccurate, repetitive, or mechanically applied, such as the sequence 'firstly', 'Secondly', and 'In conclusion'. Referencing is sometimes unclear, and sentences within paragraphs are strung together awkwardly using coordinating conjunctions like 'and' rather than sophisticated subordination or punctuation. Paragraphing is attempted, but internal cohesion is weak. These features align with the Band 5 descriptors.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The student uses a limited and repetitive vocabulary range, with frequent word-choice and spelling errors that occasionally impede understanding. Examples include 'incrment' for increment, 'dificiult' for difficult, 'midea' for media, 'knowlwgde' for knowledge, and 'travell' for travel. Less common vocabulary items are attempted, such as 'occupation sector' and 'facilities', but they are often used inaccurately or inappropriately in context. The lexical control is generally characteristic of Band 5, where noticeable errors and a restricted vocabulary constrain precision.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The writing displays a very limited range of sentence structures, with heavy reliance on simple sentences joined by 'and'. Attempts at complex structures are frequently faulty, leading to ungrammatical constructions such as 'In modern world, by each individuals propective have their own choice' and 'if student feeling unwell then they do to need to go school'. Punctuation and article usage are weak throughout, and tense consistency is often disrupted. Because frequent grammatical errors cause some difficulty for the reader and complex structures are poorly controlled, a Band 5 score is appropriate.
