Student answer (Band 6.0)

It is believed by people that in this contemporary era we have a range of choices. As far as I am concerned, the number of choices we have certainly increased in many aspects of life from procuring electronics to even choosing a small piece of household accessory. However, there is still little to no choice when it comes to choosing better hospitals and schools especially in rural areas.

The time has evolved a lot during this decade and everything has developed massively by the likes of technology, food or even brands. Such enhancement and growth in every sector lead to multiple innovations and developments that lead to multiple solutions. Multiple brands are selling the same thing or product which ultimately leaves huge amount of options for humans to choose from. With so much advancement in each category either it is food, electronics or any household related item we have a range of choices and we select whatever we want even the same thing at cheaper amount because of the choices we have. For instance, During each year, around 40 million businesses in USA register their brand that work on multiple solutions either technology or any sector that create different solutions which can create multiple choices for humans.

On the other hand, the advancement in other categories do not declare that humans still have so many things to choose from, the educational institues in under developed areas are in dire situation and people have no other options but to choose from few options for their kids. Furthermore, the health sector is falling behind in such areas and they have no choice but to visit such medical centres due to lack of accessibilty to good medical centres.

To sum up, people argue that in this cutting-edge era we have a number of options to choose from, which I believe is somewhat true in many aspects from technoligical perspective to other essentials, however the rural areas are still struggling with less choices for educational institutes and healthy facilities.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The student addresses all parts of the task by presenting a clear position on whether we have too many choices nowadays. The writer agrees with some nuance, noting an increase in choices for consumer goods while highlighting a lack of choice in rural education and healthcare. The main ideas are relevant and supported with an example, such as the mention of businesses registering in the USA. However, some arguments lack full depth or contain slight over-generalizations, placing the response comfortably within the Band 6.5 to 7 range. The position is maintained consistently from the introduction through to the conclusion, ensuring the prompt is thoroughly satisfied.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The response demonstrates a clear overall progression with logical paragraphing. Each paragraph has a distinct focus, moving from consumer goods to a counter-perspective regarding rural infrastructure, followed by a neat summary in the conclusion. Cohesive devices are used to guide the reader, such as 'However', 'Furthermore', and 'To sum up'. While referencing and transitions are generally functional, some cohesive links feel slightly mechanical or repetitive, such as the frequent reliance on 'multiple' and 'choices'. Paragraphing is handled well, ensuring that the essay's structure remains clear and easy to follow throughout, aligning closely with the Band 6.0 descriptors.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common items such as 'contemporary era', 'procuring electronics', and 'cutting-edge era'. However, there are notable lexical inaccuracies and awkward word choices, such as 'healthy facilities' instead of 'healthcare facilities', 'cheaper amount' instead of 'lower price', and spelling slips like 'institues' and 'accessibilty'. While communication is not impeded and the writer's intent remains clear, these persistent word-choice errors prevent the score from reaching a higher band. Vocabulary is sufficient to convey the main arguments but lacks the precision required for Band 7.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, incorporating relative clauses and conditional-like phrasing with varying success. There are several grammatical errors and awkward phrasings throughout the text, such as 'The time has evolved a lot' and 'either it is food... we have a range of choices and we select whatever we want even the same thing at cheaper amount'. Punctuation is also occasionally weak, leading to run-on sentences. Despite these frequent errors, they rarely impede overall communication, as the core meaning of each sentence remains discernible. This profile corresponds well with the Band 6 descriptors.
