Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response addresses the prompt by discussing whether we have too many choices nowadays and presents a clear position agreeing with this view. Relevant ideas are introduced regarding consumer products, online shopping, and career choices. However, the development of these ideas is limited and often disjointed, with sweeping generalisations and underdeveloped examples such as 'short kruti or sandal, any even laptop'. The main points tend to wander into listing items rather than fully exploring the implications of having excessive choices, which places the response securely in the Band 5 category.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The essay demonstrates some organisation with basic cohesive devices and paragraphing, attempting transitions such as 'Initially', 'On the other hand', and 'In concusion'. However, the overall progression is frequently hindered by awkward phrasing, run-on sentences, and unclear referencing. Cohesive devices are often used inaccurately, and the internal flow within paragraphs breaks down, making it difficult for the reader to follow the logical development of ideas. These features align closely with the Band 5 descriptors.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited and frequently repetitive, with noticeable errors that impede clear communication. Examples include 'banned' instead of 'brands', 'quanity' instead of 'quantity', 'bussiness' instead of 'business', and 'concusion' instead of 'conclusion'. While the student attempts some less common terms like 'development', 'technology', and 'software developer', persistent errors in word choice, spelling, and collocation restrict the vocabulary to a Band 4 or 5 level. Band 5 is awarded as the range is minimally adequate to convey basic concepts despite the errors.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

Grammatical control is weak throughout the essay. The text contains frequent errors in basic structures, subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'some people thinks', 'options are available'), and tense consistency. Complex sentence structures are attempted, but they are frequently faulty and convoluted, such as the long run-on sentence in the introduction and second paragraph. Punctuation is also problematic, with sentences lacking proper terminal punctuation or clause separation. These frequent errors cause difficulty for the reader and reflect Band 5 performance.
