Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response attempts to address the prompt regarding whether we have too many choices nowadays. The writer states a clear position in the conclusion by mentioning 'I am totally agreeing with this,' though the introduction is convoluted. Several ideas are presented, such as online shopping conveniences and entertainment options like Netflix, as well as educational choices. However, the development of these ideas is limited and sometimes repetitive, relying on general assertions rather than deep elaboration. While the main premise is understandable, the arguments lack robust extension and structure, placing the response firmly at Band 5.5 for Task Achievement.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The essay is divided into paragraphs, which provides a basic visual structure, but overall progression is hindered by awkward transitions and confusing sentence linking. The introduction is disjointed, featuring phrases like 'An excess of choice now a days is too much popular' which impede the logical flow. Cohesive devices are sometimes inaccurate or over-used, such as 'Firstly', 'However', and 'On the other hand', which do not always connect ideas smoothly. Referencing is occasionally unclear, particularly with pronouns like 'they' in the opening sentence. Paragraphing is attempted, but internal cohesion requires better management to achieve a higher band.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The lexical resource is limited and displays noticeable errors that frequently cause difficulty for the reader. Phrases such as 'too much popular', 'make our life very easy and we have lake of options', and 'fastly' demonstrate a lack of precision and control over word formation and collocations. While the student attempts some less common vocabulary such as 'psychological burdens' and 'avenues', inaccuracies in word choice prevent the writing from achieving a higher score. Basic spelling and lexical errors are evident throughout the essay, though the overall topic remains discernible.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The essay displays a very limited range of structures, with frequent grammatical errors. Complex sentence attempts are often faulty or run-on, such as the opening sentence which spans multiple clauses without proper punctuation or control. Errors include incorrect prepositions ('in any profession', 'to sit at home'), subject-verb agreement issues ('people have limited avenues... but now a days they have'), and awkward word order. Punctuation is weak, particularly regarding run-on sentences and comma splices. While simple ideas can be understood, errors are frequent and occasionally cause strain for the reader.
