Student answer (Band 5.5)

In the the today's modren world, choices of people are widely ranged in almost every aspect of life. Some people agree on that mindset while the others entirely disagree. I firmly believe that variety of choices can make life convenient but also it can be stressful when we have many more.

On the one hand, having too many choices in shopping, health services, education, job and entertainment, can make our life easier. We can select any type of education, in which we are interested and want to build our career. Similarly, when we talk about entertainment, we have a huge amount of websites, channels, serials, TV-shows available. If we go through the health services, we may have many hopitals, surgeons, specialists to treat overselves in a better way. Shopping can be very easy either online or going to the markets. We can buy the clothes, shoes and other accessoires from any shop. There are many companies and organizations that can offer a job according to our qualification. For example, if we do a job online sitting in our house it benefits alot sometimes. Specially, when you are a parent or caretaker.

On the other hand, where choices make our life easier, it can makes us stressful and confuse. Entertainment, healthcare and job opportunities also offer so many choices for us. That can create confusion. For example, if we do shopping, there are multiple brands available for clothes, shoes, ornaments and other accessories of individuals. It can make us confuse.

In conclusion, where too many choices can make lives easier and efficient, it can also be confusing and stressful. People should focus on one choice rather than taking many alternatives.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses the task by discussing whether we have too many choices nowadays and presents a clear position. The introduction outlines your view that choices make life both convenient and stressful, which is then explored in the body paragraphs. However, the development of ideas in the body paragraphs remains somewhat repetitive and relies on listing examples rather than fully extending the arguments. For instance, the second paragraph lists education, entertainment, healthcare, shopping, and jobs, but the points are stated simply without deep exploration. To reach a higher band, the ideas need to be more fully elaborated with deeper analysis rather than superficial examples. Nonetheless, all parts of the prompt are addressed, fulfilling the criteria for a Band 6.0.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay has a recognisable overall structure with an introduction, two body paragraphs representing opposing views, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate ideas. Cohesive devices are employed, such as 'On the one hand', 'On the other hand', and 'In conclusion', which helps guide the reader through the text. However, referencing and progression are sometimes mechanical or repetitive, as seen in the frequent restarting of sentences with 'We can' or 'It can make us'. Additionally, some transitions feel abrupt, and overall cohesion lacks the flexibility expected at higher bands. Therefore, this performance aligns well with a Band 6.0.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, allowing you to convey your main points about choices, stress, and convenience. There are several attempts at less common vocabulary, such as 'convenient', 'entertainment', 'opportunities', and 'accessories'. However, there are notable word choice and spelling inaccuracies throughout the text, such as 'the the today's', 'modren', 'hopitals', 'overselves', 'accesoires', and 'alot'. These errors occasionally distract the reader, though they do not impede overall communication. The range is sufficient for the task requirements, but precision and spelling consistency need improvement to achieve a higher score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The essay displays a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as conditional and relative clauses like 'if we do a job online sitting in our house it benefits alot sometimes'. There is an attempt to use a variety of structures, but errors in grammar, punctuation, and article usage are frequent. Examples include 'In the the today's modren world', 'choices of people are widely ranged', 'it can makes us stressful and confuse', and 'it can make us confuse' (where adjectives should be used instead of verbs). While these errors rarely completely obscure your meaning, their frequency prevents the essay from reaching Band 6.0.
