Student answer (Band 5.0)

The growing influence of choices in modern society has sparked various debates. This issue is particularly significant fbacause its impact affects both individuals and communities in multiple ways. Some people argue that today we have to many options. In this essay, I agree about this view and give my opinion with some suitable examples.

One of the main reason is that people can easily buy and sell things in differents ways. Some individuals buy things on various social media apps such as Daraz and Amazon, but in the past these facilities were not available. Moreover, nowadays most people eat fast food at different restaurants, In restaurant different typs of food such as pizza, zinger burger and pasta are available at all time. Therefore most people are less eat the home made food. For example, in 1989 when the junk food was not available, then people had just over one option to eat the homemade food,

Nowadays education is easy compared to the past. Students select books according to their preferences; however, in past science subjects such as Physics and Chemistry were not taught in government schools. Students were learning the common subjects such as History as well as English. Furthermore, in past mobile phones only used for communication, but nowadays most people are use cell phone for earing the money on different social media platforms. Likewise, some people are play games on phone for entertainment and others people are watching videos for relaxation.

In conclusion, I completely agree about this point because at this time many options are available for different purposes such as jobs, food, shopping, and education.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear stance agreeing that we have too many choices today. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited and uneven. The student attempts to provide examples related to shopping, food, education, and employment, but many of these points are undeveloped or historically inaccurate, such as claiming that science subjects were not taught in government schools in the past. While the main position is clear throughout, the support remains superficial, meaning it falls under Band 5 or 6. Because the ideas are relevant and attempt to cover multiple areas of modern life, the response fits comfortably at Band 5.0 for partially addressing the task with limited and under-developed ideas.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The essay displays a basic overall organization with an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. However, progression is frequently hindered by awkward transitions and mechanical or faulty cohesive devices. For instance, the use of phrases like 'One of the main reason is that' contains a grammatical slip, and paragraph breaks are sometimes used illogically, such as separating closely related sentences. Furthermore, referencing is unclear at times, and sentences often follow a repetitive structure that prevents smooth logical flow. Paragraphing is attempted, but internal cohesion is weak. These features align closely with the Band 5 descriptor, where some organization is present, but there is no clear overall progression and cohesive devices are inadequate or inaccurate.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is basic, repetitive, and restricted to familiar terms such as 'different ways', 'many options', and 'various social media apps'. There are noticeable spelling and word choice errors throughout the text, including 'fbacause' instead of 'because', 'differents ways', 'typs' instead of 'types', 'less eat the home made food', and 'earing the money'. While the intended meaning is usually recoverable, these errors cause some difficulty for the reader and reflect a limited lexical range. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary like 'influence' and 'preference', but inaccurate collocations and persistent spelling mistakes keep the score at Band 5.0, representing a limited but minimally adequate range with noticeable errors.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but attempts at complexity are frequently faulty. There are persistent grammatical errors across almost every sentence, including subject-verb agreement issues ('One of the main reason is', 'others people are watching'), tense inconsistencies ('in the past these facilities were not available', 'most people are use cell phone'), and missing articles or prepositions ('less eat the home made food'). Punctuation is also problematic in places, such as comma splices ('In restaurant different typs of food... are available at all time, Therefore most people are less eat...'). Frequent errors make reading difficult at times, placing the grammatical accuracy at a Band 5 level due to frequent errors that cause difficulty for the reader.
