Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The response partially addresses the prompt regarding whether we have too many choices nowadays. The student attempts to discuss progress in science, education, and social media, but largely digresses into a general discussion about how life has improved compared to the past rather than focusing specifically on the concept of 'choices'. The position is somewhat unclear, as the writer mentions 'It is true to some extent' in the introduction but fails to clearly develop this stance throughout the body paragraphs. Ideas are repetitive and lack specific examples directly tied to the prompt's theme of having too many choices. Based on the band descriptors, this performance aligns best with Band 5 because the task is addressed only partially, the position is not consistently clear, and ideas remain limited and under-developed.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0
The essay lacks proper organizational structure and standard paragraphing conventions. The response begins with conversational meta-language such as 'Today the given topic is...' and 'lets analyse it in following paragraphs,' which is inappropriate for an academic essay. Paragraphs are extremely fragmented and short, with several consisting of just one or two sentences, such as 'This all has become possible due to awareness among peopy.' There is no clear overall progression of ideas, and cohesive devices are either absent, repetitive, or inaccurate. Referencing is frequently unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the logical development of the argument. This fits the Band 4 descriptor where information and ideas are not arranged coherently and paragraphing is inadequate.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is basic, repetitive, and restricted in range. The student frequently recycles simple words and phrases such as 'progress', 'field of life', 'education', and 'social media' across multiple sentences without adding precision or variety. There are several noticeable spelling and word-choice errors, such as 'too much choices' instead of 'too many choices', 'technoyhas', and 'peopy'. While basic meaning is usually conveyed, the limited vocabulary range and recurrent lexical errors cause some difficulty and strain for the reader. This performance reflects the characteristics of Band 5, featuring a limited but minimally adequate range with noticeable errors.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.0
The student demonstrates a very limited range of grammatical structures, relying heavily on simple sentences and repetitive clause patterns. Attempts at more complex structures are often faulty or awkward, such as 'One thing is that in past our parents were not much educated.' Punctuation and spacing errors are frequent, including missing spaces after commas and periods (e.g., 'situation,we see in past education'). Furthermore, there are numerous basic grammatical errors, including subject-verb agreement issues (e.g., 'Education and technology has open', 'children's', 'jas played') and missing articles. These frequent errors cause considerable difficulty for the reader and align the response firmly with Band 4 descriptors.
