Student answer (Band 6.5)
Nowadays, people have more choices in almost every part of their lives. Some people think that having too many options has become a problem. I partly agree with this opinion because while having more choices gives people greater freedom, an excessive number of options can also cause confusion and stress which leads to a wrong decision.
One clear advantage of having more choices is that people can choose according to their needs, interests and preferences. In the past, people had fewer options in areas such as education, employment, entertainment and shopping. However, today students can choose from a wide range of courses and career opportunities, while customers can compare many different products before buying something. For instance, a student who wants to study abroad can consider universities in several countries instead of being limited to institutions in their own area. This freedom allows people to make choices that are more suitable for their goals and future.
On the other hand, too many choices can make decision-making more difficult. When people have a large number of options they may spend a lot of time comparing them and still remain confused about what to choose. This is especially common when shopping online as customers can find hundreds of similar products on different websites. people may regret their decisions after making a choice because they continue to think about the options they did not select. Therefore, having more choices does not necessarily mean that people will be happier or more satisfied.
In my view, having choices is generally a positive thing, but there should be a reasonable limit. People should focus on their priorities and choose the option that best matches their needs instead of trying to find the perfect one. Overall, I believe that having more choices can improve people's lives, but too many options may negatively affect their decision-making and peace of mind.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The student addresses all parts of the task by presenting a clear position and discussing both sides of the issue. The introduction clearly states a partial agreement, which is maintained throughout the essay. Body paragraph one effectively discusses the advantages of having choices, such as educational and shopping options, with a relevant example of studying abroad. Body paragraph two explores the negative aspects, noting how excessive options can cause confusion, decision fatigue, and regret. The conclusion neatly summarizes the main points and reaffirms the writer's stance. Ideas are well-extended and supported, though the development could be slightly more ambitious to reach Band 8. Overall, the response fulfills the task requirements effectively, earning a Band 7.0.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The essay displays a clear logical organization and progression throughout. Each paragraph has a distinct focus, moving smoothly from the introduction to the advantages, the disadvantages, and finally the balanced conclusion. Cohesive devices such as 'One clear advantage', 'On the other hand', and 'Therefore' are used appropriately to guide the reader through the argument. Paragraphing is managed sufficiently, and referencing within and between sentences is clear. Although some cohesive ties are fairly standard, the logical flow is never broken, and the overall arrangement is coherent. This performance aligns comfortably with the descriptors for Band 7.0.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
The student demonstrates an adequate to sufficient range of vocabulary for the task, allowing for some flexibility and precision. Phrases like 'excessive number of options', 'decision-making', and 'peace of mind' show a good grasp of topic-specific language. There are attempts at less common items, and although some word choices are slightly basic (e.g., 'good thing', 'make a choice'), communication is smooth and unimpeded. Spelling and word formation are generally accurate, with minor instances where phrasing could be more sophisticated. This lexical control is consistent with a Band 6.5.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The writer uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, including conditional or relative clauses such as 'a student who wants to study abroad can consider universities...' and 'while customers can compare many different products...'. There is good control of basic grammar and punctuation. While occasional minor errors or awkward phrasings occur, such as the lowercase 'people may regret' in the third paragraph, these errors do not impede communication. The majority of simple sentences are error-free, and complex structures are attempted with reasonable success, placing the response securely in the Band 6.5 category.
