Student answer (Band 5.5)

We are living in the 21st century, where people have done a lot of advancement in terms of everything. Yes, I totally agree when it comes to the point that we have too many choises nowadays, whereas it has its own pros and cons.

Even if you have to buy a simple outfit for a family function ,there are ample of choices ,whether to shop online or to go to a mall. both the modes have again various options .For example, there are various famous brands who sell their products in both means.

Same thing applies when you want to buy an electrical device like a mobile phone or a laptop. There are new features , new models that get upgraded time to time. According to ones choice and needs they go ahead if buying them.

These days even in careers people have choices to built their own start up and from scratch people raise their business so well. from choosing education of theri own choice to working for that chosen passion. The joy obtained is something different when you follow what you have chosen.

but some people even change their careers despite of educating on something else. For example, some engineers go into arts or entertainment field.

Things happening from our choices is good and it is not necessary that it would always turn in our favour. In my opinion the problem is not the number of choices itself but the way people mangae them. Modern life certainly offers more choices and their advantages outweighs the disadvantanges.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The student addresses the prompt by clearly stating a position that we do have too many choices nowadays, acknowledging both pros and cons. Relevant examples are provided, such as buying clothes, mobile phones, and career choices like shifting from engineering to arts. However, some ideas are a bit generalized and under-developed, lacking deep elaboration. The conclusion touches upon management of choices and reiterates the stance. This performance aligns well with the Band 6 descriptors, as all parts of the task are addressed, though some aspects lack thorough extension and depth.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The essay has a recognizable overall structure with an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion, maintaining an overarching coherence. However, paragraphing and mechanical cohesion are sometimes faulty. There are spacing and punctuation errors, and transitional links between ideas are basic or missing entirely (e.g., abrupt shifts starting sentences with 'but some people...'). Referencing is occasionally unclear, and cohesive devices are not always used flexibly. This positions the response comfortably at Band 5.5 to 6.0; given the attempts at organizing logical progression, a Band 6.0 is appropriate, though formatting and transitions require refinement.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The student demonstrates an adequate vocabulary range for the task, attempting some less common phrases like 'ample of choices', 'start up from scratch', and 'chosen passion'. However, there are notable spelling and word-choice errors, such as 'choises' instead of choices, 'mangae' instead of manage, and the incorrect phrasing 'despite of educating on something else'. Collocations are occasionally unnatural, but meaning is generally clear throughout, which fits the Band 5.5 to 6.0 criteria well. Due to frequent spelling slips and minor lexical inaccuracies, a score of 5.5 is justified.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The response employs a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some variety in grammatical structures. However, frequent errors in punctuation, capitalization, and grammar are present, such as missing spaces after commas and periods ('function ,there'), lowercase sentence beginnings ('but some people...'), and minor subject-verb agreement or prepositional slips ('advantage outweighs the disadvantanges'). While these errors do not severely impede overall communication, they occur regularly and limit the accuracy of complex forms. This reflects the characteristics of a Band 5.5 performance.
