Student answer (Band 5.0)

Some people believe that nowadays we have too many choices. In my opinion, it is in fact a true statement and I argee with that.

Choice is an act of wanting something which we do not have. I think everyone has their own choices. Although many people will say they do not got any but they insure have in their heart and mind. The world has developed a far beyond the thinking limit of human beings. Along with that many facilities have appeared like transportation, education, health services, entertainment and many more. Because of the many available facilities, people began to have more choices. For example, a poor person wants money. If he gets rich, he will not stop to have choice. Now he will have another choice. So it is a human habit of having a choice.

On the other hand, people will go far of their capacity to achieve something. It is that something will always hurt themselves in some way. Having choice is acceptable but going insane for the goal and hurting other person emotionally or physically is not worth achieving that. Most of the people downgrades other person to get their choice. Another example, a famous football throws a jersey at their fans. Now everyone has a choice of getting their celebrity jersey so all will go for it without hesitation. And the result will be conflict of who will be getting that piece of cloth. Even though someone got that, he or she would want a sign on that. So, choice never ends.

In conclusion, I strongly believe that we have too many choices nowadays. To be honest, everyone must have a choice but to achieve it they must respect each others.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response addresses the prompt by clearly stating a position agreeing with the statement that we have too many choices nowadays. The writer attempts to explore the idea through general concepts and personal examples, such as a poor person gaining wealth or a football player throwing a jersey. However, the ideas are often underdeveloped, tangential, and somewhat philosophical or confusing, as seen in the discussion about people going insane for goals or conflicting over a piece of cloth. While the position is clear throughout, the development of arguments tends to drift from the core topic of consumer/lifestyle choices into broader human desires and interpersonal conflicts. This performance aligns best with Band 5.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The text is organized into paragraphs with an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. However, the logical progression between sentences is frequently disrupted. Transitional phrases are basic or misused, such as 'On the other hand' leading into a point about ambition rather than a contrasting viewpoint, and 'Another example' introduced awkwardly. Referencing and referencing links between ideas are at times unclear, making the flow of arguments disjointed. Paragraphing is attempted, but internal cohesion is faulty and mechanical. These features reflect the characteristics of Band 5.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is generally basic and repetitive, with words like 'choice', 'people', and 'things' recurring frequently. There are noticeable lexical errors, such as spelling 'argee' instead of 'agree', 'do not got' instead of 'do not have', and awkward collocations like 'thinking limit of human beings' and 'famous football throws a jersey'. The range is limited and minimally adequate for conveying a basic message, but frequent inaccuracies cause some difficulty for the reader and prevent achievement of higher bands. This performance sits firmly at Band 5.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, but control over grammar is weak. There are frequent grammatical errors, such as 'it is a true statement and I argee', 'a far beyond', 'insure have', 'people began', and 'respect each others'. Articles, prepositions, and verb tenses are frequently misused. While the meaning can generally be deciphered, the high frequency of errors causes distraction and difficulty for the reader, placing this response at Band 5.
