Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response attempts to address the prompt by agreeing that we have too many choices nowadays, supporting this view with examples related to shopping, technology, and career opportunities. However, the position is not always clearly sustained, and the final conclusion is incomplete and lacks clarity, stating that 'This surplus the recent time to modern era'. Furthermore, the response is 10 words short of the 250-word minimum requirement, which restricts the depth of idea development and pulls down the overall score for this criterion. To reach a higher band, the student must ensure the essay meets the minimum word count, fully develop all supporting arguments, and provide a clear, coherent conclusion that directly answers the prompt.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The essay demonstrates some organizational structure with distinct paragraphs, including an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a brief conclusion. However, overall progression is limited, particularly in the conclusion, which trails off incoherently. Cohesive devices are used, but they are often repetitive or inaccurate, such as starting multiple sentences with 'In the past' or 'Nowdays'. Referencing and logical transitions between sentences can be disjointed, as seen in the sudden shift from agricultural technology to education in the body paragraphs. Paragraphing is attempted, but the internal flow within paragraphs needs substantial improvement to achieve a clearer logical progression throughout the text.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

The vocabulary used is relatively limited and repetitive, with frequent reliance on basic words and phrases like 'plenty of options', 'in past time', and 'best alternative'. There are notable lexical and spelling errors throughout the text, such as 'completly', 'availablity', 'itmes', 'everythings', and 'technologoy'. The student attempts some less common vocabulary, such as 'advancement' and 'surplus', but these are used inaccurately or inappropriately within the context of the sentence. To improve, the student should expand their range of vocabulary, focus on accurate spelling, and pay closer attention to natural word combinations and collocations.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response features a very limited range of grammatical structures, relying heavily on simple sentences alongside some faulty attempts at complex ones. There are persistent and frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues ('people has', 'Individuals does not had'), missing pluralization ('essential necessity item'), and tense inconsistencies. Punctuation and sentence boundary errors are also present, notably in incomplete sentences or fragments like 'This surplus the recent time to modern era.' These frequent errors occasionally cause difficulty for the reader and restrict the score to this level.
