Student answer (Band 5.0)

In todays fast growing world, many people thinks that we have many choices in every aspect of life. Personally i partially agree with the statement.

We are living in 21th century and technology is accessible to everyone which is the one of the main cause for getting many choices. for instance buying a mobile phone is a big decision now a days, because there are too many available options like Samsung, Apple and Huawei. All of these devices has their own attributes which makes it harder for the person who is trying to select the device. Today there are thousands of companies who are building their own electronic devices which makes it harder to choose and also gave a advantage to buyer to select from a variety of options.

Another reason of getting many choices is growing population of the world as the population increases the competition also get tougher. for example if you want to go to a cafe there are plenty of them on one street and all are offering coffee and pizza which is good but consumer needs variety which is lacking now a days. So the state should do something

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response attempts to address the prompt regarding whether we have too many choices nowadays, taking a partial stance. However, the task is severely impacted by the word count deficiency, as it contains only 194 words against the mandatory 250-word minimum. Because of this, the ideas are under-developed and abruptly cut off, ending with an incomplete thought ("So the state should do something"). While the candidate provides examples such as mobile phones and cafes, these points lack sufficient elaboration and extension. Consequently, the response only partially addresses the prompt and falls under Band 5 requirements due to limited and underdeveloped ideas combined with the significant length penalty.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The essay displays some basic organization with a clear introduction and separate body paragraphs. However, overall progression is limited, and cohesive devices are basic or occasionally absent. For instance, the transition between sentences often feels abrupt, and referencing is sometimes unclear, such as the pronoun use in "All of these devices has their own attributes". Paragraphing is attempted, but the final paragraph consists of only two sentences, trailing off incompletely. While the text is generally understandable, the mechanical cohesion and lack of smooth logical transitions place it squarely in the Band 5 category.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is adequate for basic communication but lacks range and precision. The candidate relies heavily on common words and repetitive phrases, such as "many choices", "harder for the person", and "electronic devices". There are also noticeable word choice and collocation issues, such as "fast growing world" instead of "fast-paced world", and "gave a advantage" instead of "gave an advantage". Furthermore, basic capitalization errors like "todays", "i", and "21th century" detract from the lexical score. This performance aligns with Band 5 descriptors, showing a limited yet minimally adequate vocabulary range with frequent noticeable errors.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but control over grammar is inconsistent. There are frequent grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement issues ("many people thinks" instead of "think", "devices has" instead of "have"), article omission ("a advantage"), and poor punctuation. Complex structures are often faulty, and missing capitalization throughout ("todays", "i", "21th") shows a lack of foundational accuracy. Although the meaning can mostly be understood, the high frequency of errors across basic and complex sentences makes Band 5 the most appropriate descriptor.
