Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response addresses the task partially, presenting a clear position that agrees with the prompt up to a certain extent. However, the length requirement is not met, as the essay contains only 199 words, which falls short of the 250-word minimum. The ideas presented are somewhat limited and under-developed. For example, while the writer mentions the availability of online and offline shopping as well as educational choices, these points lack sufficient extension and detailed support. The conclusion briefly reiterates the stance on the advantages and disadvantages of having numerous options, but the overall development remains basic, aligning with a partial treatment of the prompt.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The essay demonstrates a coherent overall arrangement with a clear attempt to structure the response into introduction, body, and conclusion paragraphs. Paragraphing is used, though the transitions and logical progression between ideas are sometimes mechanical or faulty. For instance, the transition into the counter-argument is marked by a lowercase 'however', and referencing can be unclear, such as in the sentence 'This is will be explained in the upcoming paragraphs'. Cohesive devices are used, but they tend to be repetitive or somewhat inaccurate, which prevents the essay from achieving a higher level of logical flow and sophisticated referencing.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary range is limited but minimally adequate for the task. The student attempts to use some less common words and phrases, such as 'foremost reason', 'availability', and 'considerable amount', but this is offset by noticeable errors in word choice, word form, and spelling throughout the text. Examples of lexical inaccuracies include 'itme' instead of item, 'beleive' instead of believe, 'optiond' instead of options, 'availibility' instead of availability, 'hundred' instead of hundreds, 'proffession' instead of professions, 'tradiitional' instead of traditional, 'ccansomtime' and 'cretes' instead of can sometimes create, 'may have spend' instead of may have to spend, 'wory' instead of worry, 'decisin' instead of decision, and 'disadvantange' instead of disadvantages. These errors occasionally cause difficulty for the reader.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The writer uses a limited range of structures, relying on a mix of simple sentences and occasional attempts at complex sentence forms that are frequently faulty. There are numerous grammatical errors across the text, including tense and verb form issues ('This is will be explained'), missing articles ('a person have ro compare with dozens of brands'), pronoun-antecedent agreement issues, and punctuation errors. For example, the sentence 'consumer can comparehundred of product before purchasing online' lacks a plural noun form and an article. These frequent errors in grammar and punctuation can cause difficulty and strain for the reader, fitting the descriptor for this level.
