Student answer (Band 6.0)
In the modern society, people believe that the human population is having multiple resources and facilities to choose between various options, although having options might feel great, I believe that it may cause confusion and anxiety while making decisions.
In this day and age, people are marketed with various options across their food intake, clothing preference, accomodation choice, etc. While this sounds great, it creates more problems in return. The number of choices available in clothing, not only creates wastage of raw materials but also creates peer pressure to follow trends into buying unnecessary outfits. With the increasing number of choices in food, the number of junk and unhealthy foodstuuf available in the market, also increases. Consequently, this ruins health across all ages. Similarly, when people are shown multiple housing options, they tend to compare and get confused, which develops into anxiety and frustation over time.
On the other hand, some people might not agree because of the lack of options in choosing healthcare facilities, people with low income find it difficult to choose between the best healthcare available and the most affordable one. Therefore I believe that we have too many choices but not where they are actually necessary. The Government is making sure that this gap is reduced, by providing health insurances, free camps, etc. Overall, we do have a lot of choices, but we need to learn how to navigate between them in order to not end up being agitated.
In conclusion, we should celebrate our choices and the freedom of having to choose between multiple possibilities, instead of taking a burden. We should learn how to rationalise between choices and choose the one that makes the most sense. We should also be mindful about how our choices do not harm others or the environment.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the task, presenting a clear position that having too many choices causes confusion and anxiety. However, the development of ideas is uneven. While the second body paragraph offers some specific examples regarding clothing and food, other ideas are somewhat under-developed or briefly touched upon, such as the counter-argument regarding healthcare facilities in the third paragraph. To reach a higher level, all main ideas would need to be fully extended and supported with deeper explanations and more comprehensive examples throughout every body paragraph.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear attempt to structure the response into introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct points, such as the drawbacks of choices in daily life versus the counter-argument regarding healthcare. However, cohesion is at times mechanical or faulty, seen in transitions like 'On the other hand, some people might not agree because of the lack of options in choosing healthcare facilities,' where the logical relationship and referencing become slightly unclear. Improving the flexibility and natural flow of cohesive devices would enhance the overall progression.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The writer uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting less common items and topical phrases such as 'consumer choices', 'peer pressure', and 'health insurances'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word-choice errors that occasionally impact precision, such as spelling 'accomodation' instead of accommodation and 'foodstuuf' instead of foodstuffs, as well as using 'frustation' instead of frustration. Additionally, collocations could be more natural, such as saying 'making decisions' rather than 'while making decisions' in the opening sentence. These errors do not impede communication, but they restrict the lexical score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, incorporating structures such as 'While this sounds great, it creates more problems in return' and conditional or relative clauses. However, there are some errors in grammar and punctuation that persist throughout the text, including comma splices and punctuation issues, such as missing commas or running clauses together (e.g., 'Therefore I believe...' lacking a preceding comma or semi-colon). Preposition and article usage also show minor inaccuracies, such as 'In the modern society' instead of 'In modern society'. These errors rarely impede communication, reflecting a mixed control of sentence structures.
