Student answer (Band 6.5)
It is often argued that modern life offers an overwhelming number of choices. I largely agree with this statment, as their abundance, while apperaing to be a freedom, often leads to stress and disatisfaction.
On the other hand, having many choices is a sign of progress and prosperity. In the past people had limited options for careers, products, and lifestyle. Today, a person in Pakistan or anywhere in the world choose from hundreds of career paths, thousands of products online, and various ways of living. For example, when shopping for a mobile phone, a consumer can compares a dozen of brands and models within the budget, which increase the chance of finding a product that perfectly suits their needs. Similarly, the freedom to choose where to live, what to study and whom to marry is a positive development that empowers individuuals.
However, I believe that this surplus of choices has become a burden. The main problem is decision fatigue and anxiety. When faced with too many options, people spend excessive time and energy comparing them and constantly worry about making the wrong decision. This is clearly seen in supermarkets or on a platform like Daraz and Amazon, where hundred of choices and similar products make it difficult to choose one. Futhurmore, maany choices are superficial and unnecessary. For instance, having 50 types of shampoo or 100 TV channels does not improve our quality of life; it simple create confusion and waste time that could be used for more meaningful activities. People end up feeling unsatisfied, always thinking than a better option might have existed.
In conclusion, although a variety of choices is beneficial to some extent, I strongly agree that in the contemporary world we have far too many. This overload complicated decision-making and reduce overall contentment. Therefore, learning to limit our options is essential for a more peaceful life.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
The response successfully addresses all parts of the prompt by presenting a clear position throughout that modern life features an excessive number of choices which ultimately leads to a burden. The writer presents relevant ideas and extends them with examples, such as comparing a dozen brands of mobile phones or mentioning e-commerce platforms like Daraz and Amazon. However, the response shows a tendency to over-generalise in certain sections, which places it at this specific level. While the arguments are generally well-developed, some supporting points, such as the mention of 50 types of shampoo or 100 TV channels, are slightly under-developed in terms of deeper analytical insight. To reach a higher level, the ideas would need more rigorous extension and fewer generalisations about everyday consumer habits.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The essay presents a clear logical organisation and progression throughout, with a discernible overall structure where the position is established in the introduction, explored from both sides in the body paragraphs, and reaffirmed in the conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct arguments regarding the benefits and the burdens of abundant choices. Cohesive devices such as 'On the other hand', 'However', 'For example', and 'In conclusion' are employed to guide the reader, though referencing is occasionally slightly mechanical. To achieve a higher standard, the use of cohesive devices could be more flexible and unobtrusive, and the logical transitions between sentences could flow with greater subtlety rather than relying on standard transition markers.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
The writer demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common lexical items such as 'decision fatigue', 'superficial and unnecessary', and 'contemporary world'. However, there are several spelling and word-choice errors that reflect this band, including 'statment' instead of 'statement', 'apperaing' instead of 'appearing', 'disatisfaction' instead of 'dissatisfaction', 'Futhurmore' instead of 'Furthermore', 'maany' instead of 'many', 'simple' instead of 'simply', and 'than' instead of 'then'. Although these lexical inaccuracies and spelling slips do not impede communication, they prevent the vocabulary score from rising. To improve, the writer needs to enhance lexical precision and eliminate basic spelling mistakes through careful proofreading.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.5
The response features a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating a willingness to experiment with subordinate clauses and varied structures such as concessive clauses starting with 'although' or conditional ideas. There are some errors in grammar and punctuation, notably subject-verb agreement issues like 'a person in Pakistan or anywhere in the world choose' instead of 'chooses', and minor collocation or prepositional slip-ups within grammatical patterns such as 'compare a dozen of brands' where the preposition is unnecessary. Crucially, these errors rarely impede communication and there is enough control to satisfy this level, while incorporating aspects of the next band through successful complex sentences. To move up further, the writer should increase the frequency of error-free complex sentences and ensure rigorous agreement across all clauses.
