Student answer (Band 6.0)

Nowadays, people have far more choices in their daily life that they did in the past. This can been seen in areas such as shopping, education, travelling and food. I firmly agree with this view because modern technology and globalisation have significantly increased the number of of available options..

On the one hand, one major reason is the growth of online shopping. In the past, people usually had to visit local shops and choose limited numer of products. Today, they can access thousand of products from different countires through websites and mobile application. For example, individuals can easily buy branded items such as zara, gucci and harmes with one click and there favourite color and article. In addition, people have free hand to eat any dish from numerous countires. For instance, a person can purchase italian cheese without getting there because of modern innovations.

On the other hand, there are several advantages. Firstly, people have more choices in education, career and entertainment. Students can select a large numbers of universities and their courese including opportunities for studing different countries. Similarly, internet provides countless forms of entertainment, films, games and online content. globlisation has made international products and services accesible to ordinary people. individuals can choose options that closely match their interest, goals and personal preferences.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the task by taking a clear position that we have too many choices nowadays, supported by relevant examples in areas such as shopping, education, and travel. However, some ideas are more fully developed than others. For instance, while the paragraph on online shopping provides specific examples like Zara, Gucci, and Hermes, the counter-argument section lacks depth and fails to clearly explain the advantages of having so many choices before jumping into various examples. To reach a higher level, the writer needs to ensure all main ideas are equally extended and supported throughout the essay.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction and conclusion, and the writer attempts to use standard cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand' and 'For instance'. However, the progression of ideas is occasionally disrupted by mechanical referencing and awkward paragraph transitions. For example, the second body paragraph begins with 'On the other hand, there are several advantages,' which is confusing since the previous paragraph already discussed online shopping advantages and this paragraph continues listing further benefits rather than presenting a contrasting view. Improving the logical flow between paragraphs and using more sophisticated referencing would strengthen the cohesion of the response.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to communicate main ideas about globalisation, technology, and modern consumption. The response includes attempts at less common vocabulary items, such as 'globalisation,' 'innovations,' and 'preferences.' However, there are noticeable spelling and word choice errors throughout the text, such as 'countires,' 'harmes,' 'application,' 'courese,' 'studing,' 'globlisation,' 'accesible,' 'expended,' and 'alot.' These inaccuracies do not completely impede communication, but they prevent the writer from achieving a higher score. Expanding lexical precision and paying closer attention to spelling and word forms will lead to significant improvement.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The writer demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, incorporating relative clauses and conditional structures. There are several grammatical errors in areas such as verb tenses, prepositions, and singular-plural agreement, such as 'that they did in the past,' 'This can been seen,' 'number of of available options,' 'thousand of products,' and 'getting there.' Despite these errors, the sentences generally remain understandable, and communication is rarely impeded. To move up to the next band, the writer should aim for a higher proportion of error-free sentences and exercise better control over complex grammatical patterns, punctuation, and article usage.
