Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The response addresses the task partially, expressing a clear viewpoint that we have too many choices nowadays. However, the ideas are limited and under-developed, relying on brief generalisations about digital income, fashion, and women working from home rather than fully exploring the implications of having excessive choices. Furthermore, the length requirement is not met, as the response contains only 217 words, falling short of the mandatory 250-word minimum. To reach a higher level, the writer needs to expand the word count and extend their arguments with more detailed explanations, specific societal examples, and deeper analysis.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The writing shows some basic organisation with an introduction, body examples, and a concluding remark, but there is no clear overall progression. Paragraphing is poorly handled, as the entire body of the text is lumped into a single block without distinct divisions for different ideas. Cohesive devices are minimal, inadequate, and repetitive, often relying on simple connectors like 'So' or repetitive phrases such as 'according to my experience'. To improve, the writer should structure the response into clear paragraphs, use a wider and more accurate range of cohesive ties, and ensure logical transitions between ideas.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is limited and minimally adequate for the task, featuring frequent spelling and word-choice errors that occasionally cause difficulty for the reader. Examples of lexical and spelling issues include 'knowlage', 'oppertunity', 'modren', 'challanges', and 'expend' instead of expand. The student attempts some less common terms like 'digital income' and 'makeup artist', but these are undermined by mechanical errors and narrow variety. To advance, the writer needs to expand their range of vocabulary, improve spelling accuracy, and learn proper word forms and collocations.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response demonstrates a very limited range of structures, relying mostly on simple sentences with frequent attempts at complex structures that are faulty. There are persistent errors in grammar, punctuation, and agreements throughout the text, such as missing articles, incorrect verb tenses like 'in past people most relay', and run-on sentences with incorrect punctuation like 'fashion' content creation'. These frequent errors can cause difficulty for the reader. To achieve a higher score, the writer must improve control over basic grammar, avoid run-on sentences, and use a reliable mix of accurate simple and complex sentence forms.
