Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
The response sits at this band primarily because it fails to meet the minimum length requirement, containing only 152 words against the required 250 words. Consequently, the task is addressed only partially, and the ideas presented are limited and under-developed. While the student attempts to present a position by stating, 'I totally diagree with this statement', the supporting arguments in the body paragraphs remain brief and lack sufficient extension or relevant examples from personal knowledge or experience. For instance, the points about career choice and lifestyle are mentioned superficially without concrete elaboration, resulting in an underdeveloped discussion. To achieve a higher band, the writer must ensure the word count requirement is fully met and provide well-developed, fully supported ideas with specific explanations and examples.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The text demonstrates a coherent overall arrangement, which places it at this level. The response features a clear introductory statement, two body paragraphs addressing different aspects of the prompt, and a concluding sentence ('In concluson...'). Cohesive devices are used to signal progression, such as 'To begain with', 'Moreover', and 'Furthermore'. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical and referencing is not always clear, which prevents a higher score. For example, expressions like 'change anytime with their satisfaction level' lack smooth integration into the surrounding text. Paragraphing is used, but the progression of ideas needs to be smoother and more sophisticated. To improve, the writer should use a wider variety of cohesive relationships naturally and ensure that referencing within and between sentences is tighter and clearer.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, though it is limited and contains noticeable errors that prevent a higher band. The student attempts some less common vocabulary, such as 'globlization', 'quzines', and 'heritage', but these attempts are marred by spelling and word-choice errors. For example, 'globlization' is misspelled, 'gadetes' is incorrect in form and spelling, and 'quzines' contains a spelling error. Furthermore, phrasing like 'lot of vareties' and 'made life very easier' demonstrates a restricted lexical range with occasional inaccuracies. To reach the next band, the writer needs to expand their vocabulary range, use less common lexical items with greater precision in style and collocation, and eliminate basic spelling mistakes through careful proofreading.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The writing exhibits a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, placing it at this level. The student attempts complex structures, such as 'individuals can do whatever they want to do in their working field because they can choose any kind of job...', but these attempts are accompanied by frequent errors in grammar, word form, and punctuation. There are notable issues with prepositions and articles, as seen in 'choose their career and lifestyle' and 'with lot of options'. Additionally, punctuation and spacing errors occur frequently throughout the text, such as missing spaces after periods (e.g., 'statement.I totally'). While these errors rarely impede overall communication, they persist across the text. To achieve a higher band, the writer must demonstrate better control over complex grammar structures and improve punctuation and article usage.
