Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
The response addresses the task only partially, reflecting a limited and under-developed treatment of the prompt. While the writer manages to state a clear position agreeing with the prompt in the introduction, the supporting ideas lack sufficient elaboration and clarity. For instance, the argument concerning technology and data storage is vague, and the example involving 'Ali' fails to properly support the main point. Similarly, the counterargument regarding the abundance of choices causing confusion is presented in a very simplistic manner with limited development. To move to a higher band, the writer needs to present fully developed ideas with relevant, coherent explanations and specific, well-constructed examples that directly address all parts of the prompt in greater depth.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
There is some basic organisation in the response, but it lacks a clear overall progression from beginning to end. The text is divided into four paragraphs, which shows an awareness of essay structure; however, the flow of ideas is frequently disrupted by inadequate and inaccurate cohesive devices. Transitions such as 'The foremost arguments to justify my stand' and 'On the contrary, some people counter claims' are used awkwardly and repetitively. Furthermore, referencing is not always clear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the logical links between sentences. To achieve a higher band, the writer must ensure that ideas are arranged with a clear, logical progression throughout and that cohesive devices are used more accurately and naturally to connect sentences and paragraphs.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is limited but minimally adequate to convey a basic message. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary, such as 'inclination' and 'unemployment', but noticeable errors in word choice, collocation, and word formation occur throughout the text, such as 'modernate technology', 'him interest loss', and 'logically acceptance'. These errors sometimes cause difficulty for the reader and impede smooth communication. To reach the next band, the writer needs to expand their lexical range and demonstrate greater precision in word choice and collocations, while minimizing errors in spelling and word forms.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response displays a very limited range of sentence structures, relying mostly on simple sentences and faulty attempts at complex forms. Frequent grammatical errors are present across the text, including issues with verb tenses ('It is been observed', 'Ali was save'), subject-verb agreement ('the improve public transport'), missing articles, and awkward prepositions. These frequent errors cause considerable difficulty for the reader and occasionally distort the intended meaning. To improve in this criterion, the writer must work on building a wider variety of grammatical structures, exercising better control over basic sentence patterns, verb forms, and punctuation to ensure greater accuracy.
