Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt by expressing a clear position of full agreement and supporting it with relevant, everyday examples regarding travel and communication. However, the ideas remain limited and under-developed, which keeps the response at this level. While the writer attempts to present arguments about transport choices and modern communication methods, the explanations are repetitive and lack depth, often relying on simple assertions rather than fully elaborated points. For instance, the discussion on travel contrasts modern vehicles with walking in the past, but the supporting details are brief and general. To reach a higher standard, the writer needs to extend their ideas with more specific examples and thorough explanations that directly unpack why having these choices impacts daily life.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

There is a basic level of organisation with clear paragraphing, including an introduction, body paragraphs addressing different domains like travel and communication, and a conclusion. However, the overall progression lacks clear logical flow, and the connections between sentences can feel mechanical or repetitive. Cohesive devices are used, but they are often applied inaccurately or awkwardly, such as using phrases like 'To commence with bright side' or 'Looking at, I saw that'. Referencing is also occasionally unclear, making it difficult to follow the logical links between ideas. To improve, the writer should use a wider variety of cohesive devices more naturally and ensure that each sentence transitions smoothly into the next to build a stronger overarching argument.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

The vocabulary used is limited and minimally adequate for addressing the prompt. The writer relies heavily on basic, repetitive words and phrases, such as 'many choices', 'people have', and 'in the present time'. There are noticeable lexical errors throughout the text, including incorrect word forms, spelling mistakes, and poor collocations, such as 'vahicals' for vehicles, 'plain' for plane, 'benifits', 'latter' for letter, and 'replays' for replies. These errors and the restricted range of vocabulary cause some difficulty for the reader and prevent the text from demonstrating more precise or flexible language control. To achieve a higher score, the writer must expand their lexical repertoire, incorporate less common vocabulary with greater accuracy, and pay closer attention to spelling and word choice.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The writing displays a very limited range of structures, with mostly simple sentences and frequent attempts at complex forms that turn out faulty. There are persistent errors in grammar across the text, including issues with subject-verb agreement, missing articles, incorrect prepositions, and faulty verb tenses, such as 'people have own choices, people do every things, they like', 'they travel in bus', and 'people could not proper facility'. These frequent errors frequently strain the reader and obscure the intended meaning. To move up to the next band, the writer needs to demonstrate a greater variety of sentence structures with improved control, reducing the density of basic grammatical mistakes and ensuring that complex clauses are constructed accurately.
