Student answer (Band 6.5)
In today's modern era, a couple of individuals claim that we have much choices. Certainly, I agree with this phenomenon because we have diverse options in every aspect of the life such as in shopping, diet, workplace, education, careers, entertainment. However, I firmly opine that too many options can sometimes create unnecessary stress and confusion.
on the other hand, having a wide range of choices can foster lives of well being. For example, consumers can compare hundreds of products online and can select best one according to their willing and budget. Moreover, colleges and universities offer variety of courses for students, which allows them to select course that matches their interest and career goals. In addition, modern technology provides different kind of entertainment sources like streaming shows, social media and video games. Therefore, having numerous options can provide greater freedom and personal satisfaction.
On the other hand, having excessive number of choices sometimes lead to unnecessary anxiety. To be more precise, Having different companies of same product, people may take considerable amount of time to select suitable product and worried about the wrong decision. For instance, person looking for a simple mobile phone may find it difficult to choose because of various brands or models available. Moreover, constantly seeing other people's lifestyle and choices on social media can make society to feel that they are not making better decision in their own lives. As a result, they feel stress and dissatisfaction.
In conclusion, although having many choices give people greater freedom and opportunities, I believe too many options can also cause confusion and anxiety. Therefore, the benefits of choices are greater when people have enough options without being overwhelmed by them.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The response addresses all parts of the task by presenting a clear position agreeing that we have too many choices and exploring both the positive aspects, such as freedom and satisfaction, and the negative consequences, such as stress and confusion. Relevant ideas are presented, such as product choices and social media pressure, but some parts are under-developed rather than fully extended. For instance, the paragraph discussing the benefits lists multiple examples like shopping, diet, and education in a slightly generalized manner without deeply elaborating on how they specifically impact everyday life. This places the task response firmly within the level where all parts are addressed, but some ideas lack the depth required for a higher band. The position remains clear throughout, culminating in a balanced conclusion.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The essay demonstrates a coherent overall arrangement with a clear logical progression from introduction to body paragraphs and a final conclusion. Paragraphing is used sufficiently and appropriately, with each body paragraph dedicated to a distinct theme regarding choices. Cohesive devices are employed to link ideas, such as 'However', 'For example', 'Moreover', and 'In addition'. However, cohesion can sometimes feel a bit mechanical or repetitive in its transitions, such as starting consecutive paragraphs with 'On the other hand' despite the first body paragraph actually discussing advantages rather than drawbacks. Referencing is generally clear, though occasional mechanical transitions prevent the flow from achieving the flexibility and seamlessness seen at higher levels.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
The writer uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully incorporating topic-specific terms like 'consumer', 'entertainment sources', 'social media', and 'satisfaction'. There are attempts to use less common vocabulary and phrases, such as 'foster lives of well being' and 'considerable amount of time', though these are accompanied by some inaccuracies in word choice, collocation, and phrasing, such as 'much choices', 'according to their willing', and 'different companies of same product'. Spelling is generally accurate throughout the essay. The lexical errors do not impede communication and are typical of a response that has sufficient resources to convey meaning adequately while occasionally falling short of precise collocation.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The writer uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating control over relative clauses and conditional structures, such as 'colleges and universities offer variety of courses for students, which allows them to select course that matches their interest'. There are some noticeable errors in grammar, particularly with articles ('select best one', 'select course', 'person looking'), pluralization ('much choices', 'variety of courses'), and prepositional use. However, these errors in grammar and punctuation rarely impede communication, and the majority of simple sentences remain clear. The range of structures is sufficient to fulfill the prompt, showing a blend of basic and more ambitious sentence patterns with occasional control slips.
