Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the task by presenting a clear position on whether we have too many choices today, discussing both the benefits of variety and the difficulties it creates. However, it falls short of the required word count, as it contains only 221 words compared to the minimum of 250. This negative impact on length prevents full development of all ideas. While the introduction outlines the stance and body paragraphs explore both sides with relevant examples such as comparing brands or buying electronics, some points remain under-developed and lack extension. To reach a higher band, the writer must ensure the essay meets the minimum word count and expands further on supporting arguments with richer details.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with a discernible logical structure. The response is divided into a clear introduction, body paragraphs addressing each side of the argument, and a brief conclusion. However, cohesion is at times mechanical or faulty, seen in transitions like 'Not only this but also due to this alternative' and awkward referencing within sentences. Paragraphing is used, but the flow between and within paragraphs could be smoother. To achieve a higher band, the writer should employ a wider and more natural range of cohesive devices and ensure that referencing is always clear, avoiding abrupt transitions between ideas.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting less common lexical items such as 'concurrent', 'costumized', and 'overwhelming'. However, there are noticeable errors in word choice, spelling, and word form, including 'choose' spelled as 'chose', 'prefrence', 'confussion', 'dicision', and 'yhe wode range'. These errors occur throughout the text and cause some difficulty for the reader, though communication is not severely impeded. To improve, the writer needs to expand their control over less common vocabulary, pay closer attention to spelling, and ensure correct word forms are used in context.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response demonstrates a limited range of sentence structures, featuring a mix of simple and some complex forms, though attempts at complex structures are often accompanied by errors. Frequent grammatical errors are present, including missing articles ('Among section of society'), subject-verb agreement issues ('alternatives give', 'competition increased'), and punctuation mistakes around commas and capitalization. These errors occasionally cause difficulty for the reader, fitting the description of frequent errors that impact readability. To progress, the writer should practice forming more complex sentences accurately and focus on mastering basic grammatical rules such as articles and prepositions.
