Student answer (Band 5.5)

Nowadays most people think that we have too many choices. I partially agree with this statement.

On the one hand, some people that we have too many choices so that we can choose. People can choose from a thousand of product it can give individuals a variety of things to choose from. For instance if someone is doing online shopping they have a huge variety of things and they waste their time in choosing because they are unable to decide in a couple of things. Furthermore, it is also very time taking to see the whole collection and choose the perfect one. Sometimes too many choices can case so many problems for people. Moreover, sometimes if someone see a variety of things they want to get everything. Most of the time if a person visits a restaurant and there are a lot of tings in the menu firstly the person will confuse that what actually he wants to get and then he want to try everything from the menu and it cost a large amount of time and money.

On the other hand, some people believe that if there are too many choices for people it can ease the life of them. If some wants to gets a higher education in a university he has the choice of many universities to choose. There are also too many career option for students which they can adopt and this is only possible due to too many choices.

To conclude, I believe that having too many choices are very beneficial but it can also cause problems sometimes.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

Your position is clear: you partially agree, and the conclusion restates that choices can be beneficial but may also cause problems. You address both sides with relevant examples, including online shopping and choosing a university or career. This meets the task, but the two sides are not developed equally: the disadvantages receive more explanation, while the benefits are asserted briefly and would be stronger with a specific example of how choice improves someone’s outcome. Some reasoning is also unclear, such as “some people that we have too many choices so that we can choose.” Explain the link between having many options and the problem or benefit in each example, and make your degree of agreement more precise.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable overall structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs presenting contrasting views, and a conclusion. “On the one hand,” “On the other hand,” and “To conclude” help signal the stages of the argument. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical, with repeated use of “Moreover” and “sometimes,” and some references are unclear. For example, “they waste their time in choosing” does not clearly identify which people are meant, while the restaurant example moves through several points in one long sequence. Organise each body paragraph around a clear main idea, use pronouns with clear referents, and connect examples to the point they illustrate rather than relying mainly on linking phrases.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “variety,” “online shopping,” “higher education,” and “career option.” However, the range is limited and several word-choice, collocation, and spelling errors make the writing less natural. Examples include “a thousand of product,” “time taking,” “case so many problems,” and “a lot of tings in the menu.” Repetition of “choices,” “choose,” and “things” also reduces precision. Build a wider set of accurate expressions for discussing options and their effects, and check spelling and word forms. More precise vocabulary would help distinguish between having many options, making a decision, and experiencing decision difficulty.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more extended sentence forms, including conditional structures such as “if someone is doing online shopping” and “if someone visits a restaurant.” The main ideas are generally understandable, but errors in agreement, verb forms, articles, and sentence construction recur. For example, “some people that we have” lacks a suitable reporting verb, “if someone see” needs subject–verb agreement, and “he want to try” needs the correct verb form. The sentence beginning “People can choose from a thousand…” also joins ideas without a clear grammatical connection. Practise accurate clause construction and agreement, and divide long sentences when needed; this will make your argument easier to follow while preserving your attempts at complex structures.
