Student answer (Band 5.5)

Everyone in the world have their own likes and dislikes.Everyone have their own set of choices which are different from each other.Choices depend upon the state of mind.If one person loves one thing there might be a possibility that other person would not like that. Choices are directly proportional to the availabilty of the options. If more options are there this means you have too many choices and if there are less options your choices are limited.

This is true that people believe that nowadays we have too many choices available because if we look around if will see that the number of options have increased. If I take example of a cars we will see that there are alot of options of cars in todays date.If we go back around 10-15years we will see that there were only limited number of options present like Honda,Toyota or Suzuki but now there are number of companies that are present with vast amount of options and features. This means that compitition is increasing and also people have vast amount of options present to select from.Ultimatly people have much more choices and prefrences.

With the rise of captalism people preferences their needs, wants and demands are changing.People choices depend heavily on the capital they have.More capital means there would be demand for more luxuries. To satisfy their needs there are alot of preferences and choices. To meet those preferences companies make different products so and market them to gain more revenue and profit.

Moving towards conclusion it is obvious that nowadays people have too many options and choices according to their needs, their likes and dislikes.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You take a clear position in favour of the statement, especially when you write that “nowadays people have too many options and choices.” The examples about car manufacturers and changing consumer demand are relevant to the question. However, the response only partly develops the argument: the opening discussion of individual likes and dislikes repeats the idea of choice rather than explaining its effects, and the capitalism paragraph makes broad claims without a specific example or clear explanation of how having many options affects people. To strengthen the response, explain the consequences of choice—for instance, whether it makes decisions harder or allows people to find products that suit them—and support each main reason with a concrete example.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a basic paragraph structure: it introduces the topic, gives two supporting points, and ends with a conclusion. The car example follows the point about increased options, so the reader can identify the main line of argument. However, progression is limited because the first paragraph repeats similar statements about preferences and choices, while the final paragraph simply restates the position. Linking is also sometimes mechanical, as in “This means” and “Moving towards conclusion,” and the relationship between capitalism, consumer demand, and choice is not fully explained. Organise the body around distinct reasons, use clear topic sentences, and connect each example explicitly to the argument. This would make the overall progression easier to follow.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some topic-related vocabulary, including “options,” “preferences,” “luxuries,” “demand,” and “revenue,” which helps communicate the subject. However, the range is limited and several words are repeated frequently, particularly “choices,” “options,” and “people.” There are also noticeable spelling and word-choice problems, such as “availabilty,” “compitition,” “captalism,” and “prefrences,” which reduce the accuracy and polish of the writing. Some expressions are imprecise or unnatural, including “a vast amount of options” and “in todays date.” Build a more varied set of expressions for consumer choice and decision-making, and check spelling and collocations carefully. More precise vocabulary would help distinguish between product variety, personal preference, and purchasing power.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt some longer sentences and use conditional structures, for example, “If one person loves one thing there might be a possibility that other person would not like that.” However, the range remains limited, and complex sentences are often not controlled accurately. Errors include subject–verb agreement in “Everyone … have” and “the number of options have increased,” missing or incorrect articles in “a cars” and “other person,” and sentence-boundary and punctuation problems where sentences run together. These errors recur and can make the reader pause to interpret the meaning. Practise accurate simple sentences first, then build longer sentences with clear clause boundaries. Pay particular attention to agreement, articles, plural forms, and punctuation.
