Student answer (Band 5.5)

Nowdays, people are overwhelmed by an excessive number of options in almost every aspect of life. I strongly agree that we have too many choices, because this can lead to stress and confusion.

The most obvious arear is cosumer products. Supermarkets and online platforms have alot of variations of the same product. For instance, if we go to a supermarket to buy a shampoo, we have alot of brands with their different functions. People are more cofused and waste their time in selecting the authentic brand. They all have different prices. Most people think that expensive things are better than cheaper things. But this imagination can be wrong sometimes. If we want to hangout with family or friends, we want some delicious food to eat for dinner, we have alot of choices of resturants, even we cannot decide the perfect one.

Futhermore, we have also many options in education and career jobs. It makes important life choices more difficult. In past, the career path was very easy. People just complete their degree , get a job and settled down. Whereas in present, we have various options in selecting careers because of technology. Globalization and technology plays a very crucial role in our lives. It gives us more oppotunities of jobs and different types of online cources which can be helpful in our future. We can do any kind of course on many different websites. It can improve our personality with confidence.

In conclusion, I strongly agreed with the variations of choices in our lives. But the excessive use of choices make young generation confused and anxious about their career.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

Your position is clear from the introduction: you strongly agree that too many choices can cause “stress and confusion,” and the conclusion returns to this view. Both consumer products and education/careers are relevant areas, with examples such as choosing shampoo or a career course. However, the two main points are not developed equally. The consumer-products paragraph explains indecision and time-wasting, but the restaurant example is brief and the claim about expensive products is not clearly connected to the central argument. The education paragraph also shifts to the benefits of technology and more opportunities, which complicates your position without explaining how those benefits compare with the difficulty of choosing. Develop each example and clarify this balance to make the response more complete and convincing.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs on different areas of choice, and a conclusion. Transitions such as “Furthermore” and “In conclusion” help signal the stages of the argument, and the examples generally follow the topic of each paragraph. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes uneven. In the first body paragraph, the discussion moves from shampoo to prices and then restaurants without clearly linking each point to the effect of excessive choice. The second paragraph shifts from career difficulty to the advantages of online courses, so the relationship between ideas is not always clear. Some linking is also mechanical, and “It” in “It can improve our personality” has an unclear reference. Use clearer topic sentences and explicit links between examples and your main claim.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use enough vocabulary to discuss everyday choices and introduce some relevant terms, including “overwhelmed,” “variations,” “Globalization,” and “opportunities.” The meaning is generally understandable, but the range is limited and several spelling and word-choice errors are noticeable, such as “Nowdays,” “arear,” “cofused,” and “resturants.” Some expressions are also imprecise or unnatural: “authentic brand” does not clearly describe the difficulty of choosing, while “career jobs” and “the variations of choices” are awkward. Repetition of “alot” and “choices” further limits flexibility. Build a more precise set of phrases for describing decision-making and its effects, and check spelling and collocations carefully so your ideas sound clearer and more natural.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You use a mix of simple sentences and attempts at more complex structures, including “because this can lead to stress and confusion” and the contrast introduced by “Whereas.” Most ideas remain understandable, but some grammatical errors occur. For example, “Globalization and technology plays” has a subject–verb agreement error, and “In past” is missing an article. The sentence beginning “If we want to hangout with family or friends” is long and awkwardly joined to the following idea, while “the excessive use of choices make” also has an agreement error. There are some sentence-boundary and punctuation issues, including inconsistent spacing around commas. Practise accurate agreement, articles, and sentence boundaries, while retaining your attempts to combine ideas using subordinate clauses.
