Student answer (Band 6.5)

The world is changing with time and broadening everyone's views and options along with it. These days, we have the independence to be the writer of our own lives. So, I highly agree with the belief of some people that nowadays we have multiple options to choose from and it will be discussed below.

I believe that our choices are widening as day passes by and letting us become unique individuals. The technology is the sole reason of the world's advancement which is opening doors to various jobs, educational curriculum's and allowing us to plan our lives as we please. Now, we can choose to study and build careers on topics that were not discovered before. A fresh example would be the growing sector of computer science, the introduction of artificial intelligence, cloud computing is providing us with way more career options regardless from being the same field of education. Another reason would be, the amount of flexibility that is adopted by the society is letting us express ourselves more openly. The structure of government and society is enabling us with options that would have faced serious backlash in previous times. People are more accepting and supportive of each others mindsets. They welcome views with positive criticism and suggestions instead of putting a stop to them. In recent times, the open acceptance of varied genders and sexual choices is a great way to show peoples widened outlook.

Although some may disagree with this statement and argue that we have been stripped off of our choices in the current times. Many would point out the new rules and regulations created by the society to make it function better. The societal expectations can make us choose things we would not have chosen just to earn a glorified position in the society.

However, the society we live in has learned to care less about the peoples opinion and are adapting newer mindsets. Thus, the advancement of technology and the flexibility of current society can be valid reasons behind the abundance of choices we have nowadays.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

Your position is clear from the introduction: you strongly agree that people now have more choices, and the conclusion returns to this view. You address the question with relevant reasons, especially technological change creating new career paths and greater social acceptance allowing people to express themselves. The examples of artificial intelligence, cloud computing, and changing attitudes to gender and sexuality help illustrate your argument. You also acknowledge a counterargument about social rules and expectations, which adds balance. The main limitation is that some claims remain broad: the discussion of societal expectations is brief, and the technology examples are listed more than explained. Develop one or two examples further by showing how they expand an individual’s actual choices and why this supports your position.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, supporting arguments, a counterargument, and a concluding restatement. Paragraphing generally helps the reader follow the progression from technology to social flexibility, and signposts such as “Although” and “However” make the shift in viewpoint visible. This meets the lower-band expectation of coherent overall arrangement, with some features of stronger progression. However, the second body paragraph contains several distinct ideas in a long block, and the relationship between social acceptance and the claim that choices have increased could be made more explicit. The final paragraph also repeats the main reasons rather than synthesising them. Separate the main reasons more clearly and use precise references to connect each example to the argument.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of topic-related vocabulary, including “advancement,” “flexibility,” “societal expectations,” and “backlash.” These choices allow you to discuss technology and changing social attitudes, and the meaning is generally clear. You also attempt more expressive phrasing, such as “the writer of our own lives,” though some combinations are not natural or precise: “the sole reason of the world’s advancement” and “welcome views with positive criticism” are examples. There are also word-form and spelling issues, including “curriculum’s” where a plural is intended and “peoples” where a possessive is needed. Aim for accurate collocations and more exact wording, rather than relying on broad phrases such as “way more career options.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including clauses introduced by “Although” and “which,” and most ideas remain understandable. Some sentence structures are controlled, such as the sentence explaining that technology is opening doors to jobs and educational options. However, some grammatical errors occur across the response. For example, “as day passes by” needs an article, and “the amount of flexibility … are letting us” has a subject–verb agreement problem. The sentence beginning “A fresh example would be…” also joins ideas without a clear grammatical structure, while “regardless from being” uses an incorrect preposition pattern. Review agreement, articles, and clause construction, and proofread punctuation around long sentences to make the relationships between ideas clearer.
